i thought there might have been a thread started about this already but can't see one, thought i would give my opinion on the show. firstly i would like to start by saying that i attended this show because i was offered a freebie on the friday night, i was over in glasgow for the intermediate championships with my club, i didn't have plans or need to rush back to edinburgh, i wanted to see how jason easton was performing and from what i had heard about their last show at the bellahouston sports centre i thought i would be in for a decent night of entertainment. there was a couple of good and bad points, i'll start with the good ones.

    1 the food was good
2 the comedian was pretty funny
3 jason easton boxed well, his opponent was strong, fit and was pretty game. he took some very hard bodyshots but was stopped at probably the right time
4 not the best thing in the world to happen but it was mildly amusing was referee kenny pringle being blasted for the stoppage in the easton fight. he was a big guy and poor kenny looked like he was going to poo himself lol

    now the bad points.

1 willie limond, one of my favourite scottish boxers but he looked like he had been on a diet of krispy krems for this fight. lol he managed to get the job done but i was just so disappointed that such a great professional would turn up in that shape. the fight also won't have done his ring rust any good because the one time he hit the guy the fight was over.

2 lewis ritson, i have heard good things about lewis from billy nelson and coaches from newcastle that i work with for amateur bouts but if i'm totally honest i was largely underwhelmed by his performance. i know it is just a warm up for his big fight at the bellahouston sports centre in march but i just thought that he struggled to cut the ring off well and looked to be forcing his work. the guy he boxed was awkward but not very eager to throw punches but more like he wanted to do the rounds for his next pay day

3 i don't know who the matchmaker was but the opponents bar jason eastons were a total joke it was horrible. keiron smiths opponent looked like he had never been in a boxing ring before, willie limond should never be in with an opponent as bad as that because it does him no favours.

if I'm honest i can see why people are getting put off with professional boxing shows but this one was the worst one i have been to since i attended a st andrews sporting club show but at least the comedian at this show was good lol

lock stock promotions if anyone is reading this then i would say that you should try be one of the promoters that buck the usual trend and put on more shows like the bellahouston sports centre one last time out because that was value for money with good value fights, i'd heard good things about that one and was really expecting the same on saturday. maybe it was just one of those things that happens but your matchmaker really has a lot to answer for because £100 a ticket for that garbage is plain robbery and as the saying goes 'at least **** turpin used a mask' lol

it had all the makings of a good show, well run, good food, greig huston did well as the mc it was just the actual boxing itself. i suppose if they had the jason easton fight as the main event instead of the first on it might no have left such a lasting impression on me. i have been offered to travel through to their show next month so i hope to have a better experience with the boxing side of that show.

was anyone else there and what are your opinions on the show? am i being too harsh on lock stock promotions? could a blind man be a better matchmaker than the one for saturday?

Boxingcrazy ive never meet you and always doubted your knowledge of boxing afterall you are from edinburgh(only joking ken), Lewis Ritson stopped a lad who's never been stopped, his jab was scary and body shots were diffrent class, the house second said the boxer wanted out at the end of the second but the cornerman talked him in to going on, when i went over to see the lad it looked to me as if his rib was broken and he was in a lot of pain.
The matchmaking was done through an agent but do remember the four fighters on the show on sat are all top drawer fighters and more than capable of doing what they did.
the general consesus was it was a good show all the fighters won and we raised £5,000 for a young child towards an operation that's needed.
Jason Easton boxed beautifully and was punching very hard i thought the ref could have stopped it on a few occasions.
Anyway looking forward to the best show to hit scotland since ricky was champ in March at the Bellahouston

sorry pal i forgot to mention about the raising money for charity so well done for raising that money which i can gladly say i contributed too by buying the raffles :good:good

on lewis ritson it might just be because i had heard such good things about him from not just you but also guys where he comes from that i just expected a bit more. yes his jab was good but he was getting caught on the way in a bit too much for this level and also struggled to control the ring imo he followed the guy instead of cutting ring off. can't argue with the stoppage though.

will lock stock use that same agent for doing the matchmaking again? imo it was the matchmaking that totally let the whole show down and its ok you saying that the next show will be biggest since ricky was champ but with that matchmaking i really doubt it. you have a mexican super middle coming over that is super middle, why not try match him with craig mcewan who I've heard is training hard and looking for a bout?

I offered Craig to fight Mohammad. 4-0 fighter for a minor title and he said no has he wants warm up fights
It's a guy dubbed the next Barrera who's a light welter and Light middle that's coming over from Mexico
Again you must of been the only guy at the show who thought Lewis wasn't cutting the ring off, how do you think he managed to get the body shots home? Coz the guy had nowhere to go!

lol you really crack me up billy boy. you say you are involved with lock stock (maybe the matchmaker lol) but one look up on boxers and i know that paul valuenzuela jr is a super middleweight so how can someone in the know think he is a light middle? lol he is a far more credible opponent than mohammad with only 4 fights.

in the first 2 rounds lewis stalked him but without ever cutting off the ring effectively the fact the opponent was unwilling to throw more punches meant that lewis got close enough to get the job done. i look forward to seeing the opponent for the bellahouston show.

mate Lewis badly damaged if not broke the guys rib in round 2 so he must have got pretty close to him lol
You need to sit down and watch some dvd's on tv and learn about the sport to pass on to the amateurs you have in your gym, otherwise our sport will be a shambles

did i say he never hit him in the first or second rounds? i didn't so i don't understand where you are coming from. he might have broke his ribs with a good shot in the second and well done to him for that but are you seriously telling me that he wasn't following the other lad about the ring? i think someone of your experience should at least be able to gauge what is happening in the ring. lol

maybe big alex was right about you lol:hey

seriously you and only you say Lewis wasn't cutting the ring off brilliantly, mate ive forgot more about boxing than you know
With regards to your comment on Alex, getting beat on points against Crawford really doesn't seem a bad result now, Ricky simply wasn't good enough to beat him, so to only lose on points wasn't so bad considering what he's been doing to his opponents
see when you've went over 6 years undefeated with a fighter I think you can read a fight ok, however it appears you can't
No wonder the amateurs are so full of faults when they turn pro

i agree one hundred percent about the crawford fight being a step too far for ricky and during his run i bought tickets to watch him for every title fight he had in scotland and thought you and him worked miracles but something went wrong near the end.

on you reading fights mate, being undefeated for six years doesn't mean you did that well if we are being honest. fw matched ricky very very well and i might be mistaken but to prove you can read a fight you must be able to show a plan a.b or c. at no time during that run did you ever change what ricky was doing and in some of the fights it was pretty boring but at the end of the day you got the w.

i have also seen you say on numerous occasions that ricky shouldn't fight southpaws so maybe you should look at your own coaching methods because this can be worked don in the gym and the fact you had him for so long and decided he just couldn't do well against them looks every bit as bad on you as it does him.

  10. Why is Billy incapable of taking constructive criticism?

you need to watch dvd's mate, did Ricky box the same way against Mitchell and Katsitas Or Moses No, so your silly point has already been blown out the water, you should really tell us about your coaching acheivments rather than have a pop at mine lol, I will leave a wee blank space for you to fill in lol
With regards to southpaws it's more Ricky's inability in dealing with them, after all his manager and promoter were told by myself and I was proved right

its not constructive when Lewis boxed excellently and stopped a guy nobody has before and bigger guys at that

Billy mate I wouldn't rise to it!! Everything will fall into place, Lewis a is good kid and is only starting off. Personally I thought he boxed and cut the ring off well, the guy was awkward and it can take a round or two just to settle into a rhythm!!

I think it would be more constructive if the he knew who was giving it rather than hide behind a username as some of the stuff gets personal.

    Just my opinion.

But I do enjoy reading posts from boxingcrazy as it's usually about Scottish boxers.

i never try to make things with anybody on here personal pal, i try my best to say things how i see them and not look to take anybody down but sometimes billy takes silly things personally when it is just constructive criticism and there is no need to. he gets very defensive and fires back insults towards others that are not always justified.

i like billy being on here and i wish more people in his position came on here but i just think he could act with a little more class at times and not try to just replying 'who have you ever trained' or 'what have you done in boxing' or 'I've forgotten more than you will ever know' billy seems a top guy and have been told by by lots of coaches that he is a nice guy but on the flip side i know loads that don't have a good word to say about him. i like his knowledge but think he just needs to stop jumping down peoples throats because they say something he doesn't agree with.
