Canelo Vs Khan Is A Great Event For Boxing and the MW division

    Say what you will, but Amir Khan stepping way up and facing Canelo Alvarez will supply a huge boost to boxing and especially, the weak middleweight division.

    It was a surprise move that almost no one expected to happen. Khan, a WW challenging one of the top SWW/MW champions and GBP promoted Superstar, Canelo Alvarez.

    Since being announced, Khan and Canelo have been the talk of the town generating a tremendous amount of international interest.
    The benefits for the winner are equally as tremendous.

    Canelo will come into the fight as a huge favorite. Everyone expects him to defeat Khan, but still there is some doubt. Styles make fights and this will be an interesting clash of styles. The obvious attribute here that is expected to tilt the scales is Alvarez's natural size advantage. Not skills or speed or power, but size.

    If Canelo defeats Khan it will be a great addition to his resume since Khan is acknowledged to being one of the best in the division.
    Depending on how he wins, by KO or by out-boxing Khan, it is a sure win/win for Canelo.

    For Khan, he has already received many accolades just for having the nuts to take the fight. His confidence hopefully will serve as an example to all those MWs who have been hiding out in the shade facing mediocre competition while avoiding the best. Khan is shaming those b-level champions and showing them a real fighter is supposed to act. Don't think that Quillin, Jacobs, Golovkin are not noticing this and feeling somewhat ashamed of their inability to beat Khan to the punch by making their own big step up matches.

    What if the odd makers are completely wrong again, and Khan actually finds away to win this fight.

    Who do you think will then start calling out Khan for a MW title fight? The usual suspect. :yep

    Having seen Khan's lack of punch resistance on numerous occasions, and seeing him get dropped by tiny little domestic level operators like Willie Limond.

    I anticipate that he will be iced.

    He lacks skillful foot movement to get in and out of range- and pretty much only has fast hands when he finds the sweet spot.

    Canelo is really not going to be given any puzzles in there that he cannot solve within 5 seconds flat.

    It is. Didnt take long for it to get all over the main Sports news and websites in the UK. Parttime Boxing fans at work are already talking about it too. This is guna be quite large.

    As the works and pubs resident Boxing fan I am getting asked about it, they heard the name Canelo but couldnt say what weight he fights at and I have to tell them that Alverez is actually the same person and not somebody else also interested in fighting Khan or Canelo.

    When i explained all the 155 catchweight nonsense to them they didnt really get it so they dont see it as disgusting and even after I tell them they still think both Boxers ply their trade in the same division.

    So where as some real Boxing fans may shun the fight and alot of real Boxing fans think picking Khan is really cheap by Canelo and GBP it doesnt matter. Real Boxing fans only make up a small percentage of of total viewing figures.

    If what you say is true then if they don't know Canelo, then very likely they don't know who the actual MW champions and contenders are either.
    After this fight the MW division will receive a lot more attention and just perhaps, the actual MWs will come out of hiding and face one another. :deal

    I'm pretty certain Quillin, Jacobs and Golovkin would have loved to have faced Canelo, but it's clearly not their fault that it hasn't happened.

    As I understand it, since it is a sanctioned WBC MW title fight, 155 must be the absolute MW minimum. :smoke

    Canelo has what very well may become a mega-fight on his hands which may also prove to be more competitive than people are thinking.

    What do the other three have going on that is even half as anticipated?
