    Not a dumb move, honestly.

The welterweight division in the UFC is pretty crowded at the moment, and he is giving up tons of size in most cases to a pretty deep pool of talented guys surrounding him in the rankings.

Bellator has a thinner field. The likes of Lima and Koreshkov would still enjoy physical advantages over him but Henderson's skill, experience, and versatility of style could balance the scales in his favor. Getting into contention will be a breeze with similarly-sized and very beatable foes like Daley and McDonough serving as springboards.

Good move by Bellator, they should be getting more signings like this. Bendo was already done in UFC, he already won the title at 155 and I doubt he ever fights for the title at 170 so he's already accomplished.

I think he knows it's time to cash out as he nears the end of his career/may have dropped a notch.

    :nod

This affords him the opportunity to bow out as "the man" in a company with a much weaker class of welterweights than in the UFC, where he was unlikely to make a dent.

...and from Bellator's perspective, his name brings value and lends some legitimacy to its WW division.

Wow! Forget about raking up the riffraff and elbowing his way past Lima, Daley, or McDonough - reportedly Ben is getting a crack at Koreshkov for the belt in his Bellator debut!

    Thoughts?

Well.... He did stand up to the massive Thatch(even though he was hype job who went bust) Koreshkov is legit and if he manages to stun Bendo early it ain't going to be pretty. Bendo has some advantages here, but will they be enough to make up for the disparities in size and power? I don't think so. Koreshkov by KO.

I'll have to watch some more of Koreshkov.

On paper he does have a few decent notches in his belt so far but nothing to suggest a pedigree to make him a fave over Bendo..even with being more of a strong natural welter. :think

Yeah the bookies will have Bendo as favorite I'm sure, but this is going to be a tough fight for him.

Good move for both Bendo & Bellator.

The former gets to bring in more money from sponsors (although those sponsors would prefer if he was in the UFC, more exposure etc), and the latter get a top UFC fighter still in his pomp that could bring more top fighters over (guys like The Reem are apparently free agents).

If Bellator secured Wand, Reem and Fedor, 2016 could very well be their year.

I reckon Cerrone will go down the same route.

I've always rated Coker as a promoter. Sharp guy who the fighters love (unlike Dana).

    This could get interesting...

Yeah, that's a good point about Bendo luring some talent over...

Who are his known buddies/stablemates/training partners in the UFC?

He seems a pretty likable sort (aside from the preachy religious stuff...but then, most fighters are into that) - was probably a popular veteran presence during his time in the UFC with lots of respect carried over from his WEC tenure.

If Bellator are smart they will do what I expected Strikeforce to do. The UFC simply can't get their hands on all the talent, even though they are close. There's always talent that they underestimate (Cormier), talent that they reject (Werdum) and talent that just isn't theirs (Overeem). Yes, they all became UFC fighters but they were all Strikeforce fighters.

The UFC like fighters on the rise but they let go alot of fighters who are still elite but not the latest or the most entertaining.

Bellator must snap up the talent before they make it to the UFC, snap up their rejects who are good fighters develop their own fighters. Much like SF, they'll eventually become big time.

They just need to make sure the UFC doesn't buy them when that happens!

They just signed Kharitonov, speaking of ex-SF guys. :good

They have already outlasted Strikeforce's total run of existence by a year (unless you count SF as being an extension of EliteXC, in which case Bellator is a year shy), and seem to be going strong. The writing had already been on the wall for a while before SF folded after seven years. Bellator took longer to gain a foothold but eight years in they are emerging as the market's clear #2 promotion, much as SF was at its peak.

...and, impressively, that's without having the financially backing of a major network like Showtime, like EliteXC & Strikeforce did.

    Not too sure.

All it takes though is for a named fighter who isn't going to win the belt (but is exciting) to see the extra dollars and want in.

    Cerrone fits that mould.

Yeah Bendo does seem like a cool cat. Always rated him.

Crazy how the SF guys come to run the UFC.

    Werdum, Rousey, DC, Rockhold.

Bellator should go after the Diaz brothers.
