At the same point in their careers ... Ali beat Liston.

But Charles Martin is too much too soon for Joshua.

See post #5. Maybe his team wants a couple more fights and a few things to work on? I doubt AJ is worried about ****ing Martin, the bum prince of St Louis.

If there's nothing to worry about, then why do they need to work on a few things?

If they don't work on those few things, will they lose?

    Give me a break.

This is proof that Boxers and/or their teams are reading forums like this one and social media heavily. They are trying to manipulate the discussion. I didn't think hardcore fanboys mattered this much. So much of the talk from the industry is just food for fanboys lately. Anthony Joshua's team doesn't want to move too fast to maximize their chances of dominating the heavyweight division. He's not ducking, he can likely beat most fighters right now, it's that risk of being caught with something and losing that they don't like. If he fought and beat Martin, then fans would expect him to keep fighting the best fighters or risk a backlash that would **** his momentum. Very easy to understand. Martin trying to get some shine, I can't hate him for that. Boxing politics do you love it.

He's four years into his pro career. This is when most of the top heavyweights ever fought for the title. Ali, Frazier, Bowe, Lewis, Patterson, Klitschko ... Some moved faster. Joe Louis fought for the title three years into his career. Mike Tyson less that two years.

    And it's CHARLES MARTIN.

Not one of the all-time greats. It's CHARLES MARTIN.

What top contenders in the IBF is Joshua terrified he doesn't have the skills or experience to beat? Glazkov? Andy Ruiz? Teper? Stiverne?

    Incredible.

When Audley Harrison turned pro and during the first few years of his career -- when all of Britain wanted him to STEP UP - Lennox Lewis was the world heavyweight champion. Holyfield was there. Tyson was still knocking guys heads off. Wlad Klitschko was coming into this own. Vitali Klitschko was on the rise.

Anthony Joshua is supposed to be 100 times better than Harrison. But four years into his career, people DON'T want him to fight Charles Martin because it's too soon.

    Oh my God.

If Anthony Joshua signed to fight Charles Martin in April ... Anthony Joshua would win by KO in a round or two. Martin stands straight up. His power is limited. He has NONE of the experience Joshua has.

It's a blowout win for Joshua.

That's why Joshua is BLOWING IT.

Again, there won't be another heavyweight beltholder THIS EASY TO BEAT in the coming years.

    None.

Four years into his pro career, Audley Harrison would've won the title from Charles Martin.

Biggest career blunder I've seen in many many years.

    Amazing.

Martin is a JOKE. He has no right to diss AJ.

But he's too big a step up for Joshua, because Joshua has some things "he needs to work on."

    Like courage, apparently.

Sense. You have it. That said, I'd let him beat Martin and step up anyway. He's a top ten fighter now with every body so has to act accordingly.

Pulev/Helenius so be the bottom tier of opponents he should be looking at now IMO.

Joshua doesn't want to be Mandatory either.

He will let Parker fight Takam for that spot. Wait and see.

Not true. Ali beat Liston in his 20th fight after being a pro for 3 years and 5 months. Joshua has had only 15 fights and only been a pro for 2 years 4 months. Ali also had a much more extensive amateur career as well.

I'd give Parker huge props for taking such a fight so early in his career. I think he'd have a pretty good chance of winning as well and he'd wreck Martin.

I wouldn't give Parker "huge props."

Two months ago, if Parker signed to fight Martin, everyone would be saying that Parker should stop him and that Parker had already beaten tougher guys.

    And it would be true.

I don't know why Czar Glazkov twisting his knee has suddenly made Charles Martin a feared guy. But it's dumb.

WHOEVER FIGHTS CHARLES MARTIN NEXT will be the new IBF Heavyweight champion.

Whoever accepts the date is the new champ.

If it's Joshua, he's the new champ. If it's Parker, he's the new champ. If it's Szpilka, he's the new champ. If it's Breazeale, he's the new champ. If it's Gerald Washington, he's the new IBF champ. If it's Oscar Rivas, he's the new IBF champ. If Amir Mansour's tongue and jaw heal, and he takes the fight, he's the new IBF champ.

Maybe not Arreola, since he's not even as good as he once was, and even when he was at his best it wasn't good enough. But I'd give Arreola a 50-50 shot.

Charles Martin is not good. Turning down an IBF title shot with Charles Martin sitting there with the belt is insane.

I can't stress enough what a dumb decision this for anyone to not take this fight. Whoever fights Martin next will beat him ... and that guy will be tougher to take the title from.

Charles Martin is not the point. When he's a champion he'll have to face world-level opposition. Charles Martin is a bum, but not every HW is. Joshua isn't ready for the top 4 or 5 HWs in the world - that's who he needs to be ready for when he takes a title.

He's only had 15 pro fights. Even greats like Tyson and Lewis were 27 and 22 fights in before they challenged for a belt.

    Lewis - 22 fights
    Tyson - 27 fights
    Ali - 27 fights
    Holmes - 27 fights
    Vitali - 24 fights
    Wlad - 35 fights

Why is it such a shock to suggest that Joshua still needs some more fights before he's ready to start defending a world title?

If I said two months ago that Charles Martin and Anthony Joshua were the same level, EVERY SINGLE GUY in this thread who says Joshua SHOULD WAIT ... would have tore my head off for saying such a thing.

    I guarantee it.
