I wonder why Joe Calzaghe was never offered millions for his return to boxing?

Wrong again Berol the butthurt berk. Jones was actually months away. Being that Calzaghe was 36,was he not a 40something too. How long before your 40th birthday do you become 40something? Was Lacy a 40something? If he would've fought Froch instead of Jones would he be a 40something?

you musrt be very hurt to bring up such a topic, sorry you were so stung that you had to resort to such measures.

    So, to recap, we've got:

    1) Ward's team trying to fight him after Dawson, which would've been a multi-million dollar fight.

    2) Froch, who's been wanting him for years and who tried desperately to get him out of retirement, which also would've been a multi-million dollar fight.

    3) If you give what Joe says any weight, he also says there were other offers, as well, but he didn't disclose terms or opponents.

If you want to argue away one of the options, that's fine. Brushing off two of them is tougher. All of them? I don't think you can credibly say none of the three are valid and that Joe had no multi-million dollar offers to come back. That'd be ignoring what three different primary sources had to say about the matter (Joe, Froch and his team, Ward and his), and I don't buy that.

So, while Joe may not have had a blank check from HBO to fight whoever he pleased for $10 million, there were healthy multi-million dollar options he said "thanks, but no thanks" to. Saying it was for "legacy" or "personal reasons" doesn't disprove those facts, because those reasons aren't mutually exclusive. There are plenty of instances where the biggest money fight is also the most personal.

    That is all.

What about his early fights against Thornberry, Starie and McIntyre etc?

The McIntyre fight was on the Tyson-Nielson undercard, so I'm assuming he was shown on Showtime then.

    Your posts are bizarre.

    1. Joe struggled with Reid.

    2. He got involved in a careless shoot out with Mitchell.

    3. Eubank still had a lot left in the tank, but he wasn't almost at his best.

    4. I think it's a fantasy to believe that he wouldn't have lost a single round to Froch.

I can't criticise Joe for not wanting to fight Froch, even though it would have been great.

He deserves criticism for the Pavlik fight though. That was bizarre.

Starie was on US TV as were his fights against Sheika and Woodhall. They were all on Showtime IIRC. Starie was his debut with them IIRC, which actually did him way more harm than good. Veit I and the Byron Mitchell fight were also on Showtime as well. I'm sure the showed a few more of his fights on there too.

Frank made him fight Manfredo, solely to gain more U.S. exposure.

It was an embarrassing mismatch. An insult to Joe's talent. But it needed to be done, because Joe hadn't sold himself to the U.S. enough when he was younger.

Are the rumors of Calzaghe being a Cocaine addict true? Eddie Hearn is also a known coke head.

According to an old copy of BM, the Thornberry fight was his debut. But I don't know whether it was live or a delay.

He didn't make a good impression with the Thornberry and Starie fights.

McIntyre would have gotten him a lot of views on the Tyson card, but he was a late sub wasn't he?
