In fairness to the OP I think this could well happen. Povetkin's promoter Ryabinski had even said as much. They can delay Povetkin as a mandated defence under the pretence they're 'unifying' against Charles Martin and then if he beats Martin drop the WBC and duck Sasha for good whilst maintaining the illusion that he, Deontay Wilder is Heavyweight Champion Of The World.
I think AJ is way bigger than povetkin, i reckon that might be the difference. AJ bashes him up he couldn't lay a giove on Wlad. i think its either speed or size that will challenge aj
AJ will probably end up picking out one of the World titles out of the trash can. Absolute joke the way governing bodies are run.
i thought the WBC rules towards mandatory defense's that a unification takes precedence over a mandatory? i'm sure i read that somewhere so he could fight martin for a unification then Povetkin for both belts?
Wilder said today or yesterday that he intends to fight Pov in April. I'm skeptical until the fight is signed to be honest with you
Indeed. Wilder's whole career is an obvious con game, and has been from the get go. In 35 years of following boxing, I have never seen a touted fighter face more pathetic competition for longer. There is a reason for this, and it's found in Wilder's chin.
I love all the bashing based on a rumor with no credible source. Wilder and Povetkin are in negotiations. Negotiations are driven by leverage. If hinting that they might instead unify with Martin gives Wilder's side more leverage, they're going to use it. But the Deontay-Sasha fight will take place. In Brooklyn, USA. In the spring. Bank on it.
ITS FINEST BONE CHINA. He knows it as do his investors. KNOCKED OUT BY BOTH HAYE AND WLAD, multiple times in sparring for God's sake. That is why he has to be matched constantly with fighters outside of the top 30, fading names and weak punchers.
Makes sense for Wilder, drop the WBC belt and avoid Povetkin and then fight Martin for the IBF. The IBF have been rather strict in forcing mandatories so the chances are if Wilder beat Martin he would not be able to get away with what he has with the WBC.
