Do you have a source for Greb turning down a sixth fight with Tunney?

Turning down? I do not as I'm unsure if an offer was made. I can tell you Tunney wanted a 6th match. Greb however did not.

Powerfully but honest words by Greb.

So you see, size matters, and when Tunney grew, it was no contest at all.

Tunney also was fine with a 3rd match with Dempsey and IMO would have stopped him if the 2nd fight was 15 rounds.

Is that quote from a contemporary source?

This article would appear to contradict the notion that Greb was unwilling to face Tunney again.

That's what Greb said after the 5th fight.

Tunney was fine with a 6th, and why not it was getting easy for him, just like Dempsey was.

Like I said, Greb said no way to a 6th fight. You may be misinterpreting that as an offer for a 6th fight. I'm not sure if there was one.

You said Jackson was very fast ,on what do you base that?
Jackson stopped only 3 men of any note
Glass jawed Peter Maher, who was kod 19 times in his 21 losses!
Thirty six years old Patsy Cardiff
    And Frank Slavin.

Jackson has a 30% ko record or, if you prefer 18% less than Choynski's 48% !:lol::lol:

I never said Choynski ,[not Choysnki] hit harder than Fitz

    I said :
    Fitz
    Corbett
    Sharkey
    Johnson
    Jeffries
Said he was the hardest puncher they met.
Can you give me another fighter who has the first hand testimony of 4 world champions and one top contender stating he was the hardest puncher they fought?

By the way your reading and writing lessons ,[ that you told me about when you attempted to reconcile with me via pm,] were a complete waste of time.
You're as thick and illiterate as ever.

    Just thought you should know.:good

Do you know ,you make people lazy because it's so easy to expose you, half the time you f*ck yourself up!

I'm sure Klompton will have something to say about your assertions on Greb and a possible 6th fight with Tunney.

We already know you have no source for such a comment.:-(
And Berlenbach has provided a primary source that directly contradicts you!:patsch

Perhaps the main difference between grebe era and Corbett's was the sheer huge among of boxers in the 20s. It was an absoultly crushing completion between the wars thanks

Wow. Not sure. By his own words, Greb was badly beaten and said he wanted no part of Tunney. This is prize fighting, 35,000 can change a fighters tune, especially if they need the money! Or this could be paper fluff

The weekend is here for me, and I don't post often then. Lots to do.

I'm yet to see a contemporary source in which Greb said he didn't want to face Tunney again, that he believed Tunney would stop him, etc. That quote you posted is completely unverified. The only online source for it is another boxing forum. There are, however, contemporary reports which mention Greb's willingness to have a sixth bout.

Mendoza why do keep insisting Tunney suddenly grew into a hw in 1925? When Tunney first met Greb he was a full grown 25 yr old adult male. When they met in 1925 he was 28. What did he suddenly have a late growth spurt or his ****rty?? The fact is he was making weight for 175, you know the division he was fighting in prior to 1924. He was still every bit as big as Corbett in 1922 and with minimal rehydration probably easily weighed 180+. In 1924 when Greb beat Tunney in Cleveland it was a catchweight fight where Tunney weighed well north of 175 and Greb stilk beat him and was past his prime doing it. So why this silly adherence to the false narrative that Tunney suddenly hit ****rty at 28 and outgrew a Greb who had four times as many fights, was blind in one eye, suffering a broken rib, etc. It just makes you look stupid, uninformed, biased and unable to admit you are wrong. Kinda like when you argued on behalf of Kurt Noltimier as his supposed supporters jumped ship like lemmings when they had to hear what i said. In the end you were left alone defending a lost cause and a serial liar because you arent big enough to admit when you are wrong.

Kind of reminds me of that time when a poster here on Classic accused Burt of lying about his age... claiming he wasn't really a senior citizen, and that he hadn't actually watched all those great fighters from the 40s and 50s he is talking so warmly about all the time. And when said poster found himself all alone with this opinion, he too wasn't big enough to admit he was wrong. Yeah, pretty much the same thing!
