Mike Tyson rates much higher to me than Mayweather,,,much, much higher,...as a man, a boxing disciple/historian and as a fighter.
I think Tyson’s respect and knowledge of boxing history makes him more credible to the haters. Post prison he really did damage his legacy but he always had that humble attitude, despite what happened its difficult to despise the man even if you are not a fan. He knows what he is talking about so even though he did the biting and all that stuff, he is still a credible commentator of boxing. I’m a big fan myself, I am talking about those that try to discredit him. Say what you will but his boxing knowledge shows he is not some dumb lump, he knows about other fighters legacies as well as having philosophical insights into their lives.
Yes. Tyson's knowledge of boxing history is very impressive. I always enjoy hearing him talk about it.
AGREED, and I have said it numerous times on BoxRec, CBZ and here. This IS the Recipe to SAVE Boxing!!! instead of just hyping up mediocracy, they would be better served in bringing the rich & wonderful history of boxing to life in pre fight build ups, highlighting past stories, similarities, great fights, lost greats, glimpses of the hoi polloi for big fight showdowns, controversy and corruption. Give FANS a lesson, an education & substance, build it up 'in comparison' and Don't be Afraid to compare it negatively, as in these fighters don't quite measure up to their predecessors, or this fighter does... Be Straight about it, give the Fans a Black & White or Sepia history, make it interesting and intriguing (there's a million stories to choose from), and Do It for EVERY Major Fight Card, instead of all this Hyped up nonsense. I'm telling you. after a few televised Proper Production events the word would be flying around and Boxing would see a significant revision!!!
Exactly, for what it costs to watch, boxing fans should be getting educated watching comparisons between the legacies of past greats written into the build up of a live show rather than hours of pundits talking cr@p and focusing on phoney grudges.
Tyson has always sung the praises of champions that came before him. Not just champions either. He generally says a lot of good things about the fighters of today too. He's spoken very highly of the Klitschkos. He called out Mayweather because Mayweather said he was greater than Ali, Robinson etc.
First HW since Vander Hollafeld in 1997 to win Ring fighter of the year. The HW scene is heating up now and Wlad lost to the first guy he faced from this new generation. 12- nothing. That tells you everything you need to know.
I don't know about Tyson training guys at a high level. Most top-notch trainers weren't great pros. Often times great athletes are lousy trainers/coaches because they don't have the patience, they can't understand why others don't have the talent and desire and smarts that they do.
