It's not inconceivable that Ward ducked Bute, firstly, Bute was not seen as a joke before he got beat by Froch, he had a pretty fearsome reputation as a deadly body puncher.

So this is just speaking in hindsight or in ignorance of how Bute was viewed back then.

 

i dont dispute your views on bute pre-froch....but to suggest ward was afraid of him is ridiculous....

I could accept ignorance but these guys are clearly writing with willfull ignorance. They know Bute had beaten Sakio Bika easily, whereas Ward went life and death with Bika.

In 2012, Lucian Bute was a consensus top 3 super-middleweight. Ward knew Bute had the style to beat him and stayed far away, letting his attack dog Carl Froch handle that tough assignment. Carl Froch also took care of George Groves for Ward. Andre should have paid Froch for doing that.

Groves and Bute have good technical skills and speed, and hit harder than Ward. Andre prefers guys who hit may hard but are too slow to ever land a punch on him.

Styles make fights. Ward beats Froch, Froch beats Bute/Groves, and Bute/Groves would beat Ward, but Ward is smart enough to know that so he lets Froch take care of them. Boxing is about brains too, not just punches.

The irony is that the weaker they make Bute out to be, the dumber it looks that Andre avoided him.

Bute was the biggest name and the money man in the division. That's why Ward got bitter as soon as Froch got the hype and value of beating Bute. That increased name value, and the IBF belt, could've been going to him.

ward went through the super 6 and won it..finished unbeaten...while bute was sittin back beating up garbage....first time he stepped up he got smacked......the guy was already out on his feet and saved by the ref against andrade....lol

 

No, you're speaking in hindsight again "but he's not", yes, we know he's not that good now but that wasn't the case back then when Ward possibly could have ducked him (I'm not saying he did or not that's beside the point) I mean to go around saying "BUTE BUTEEE OF ALL PEOPLE HAHHA!" to me shows your ignorance of boxing in that particular time period.
