He did this intermittently throughout his career. In Oscar-Mosley I which I'm watching just now, his father holds his hands up in stages as he breaths. When he was with Mayweather he took instructions with his hands on Mayweather's shoulders, sometimes. This is unusual. Anyone know the thinking?
Supposedly, lifting your arms above your head opens your diaphragm and allows for better oxygen intake. You see it sometimes in other sports.
Ah, I see. This must have been something Oscar was into, given that he did it with different trainers. I wonder if he ever said anything about it?
I wonder when it started. Did you see it before Trinidad? As a guess, after gassing in that fight, somewhat at least, he looked for something to give him a little edge.
I looked at some random between rounds pre Trinidad. Some amateur fights, Avila, Molina, Whitaker, and didn't see it. But I would like to see if de la Hoya said anything. Maybe later I'll check out the si vault.
