I agree. He was irritating. I still enjoyed watching him.
The guy you love to hate, is the best way I can describe him.

He was at his obnoxious worst/best on Monday Night Football with Don Meridith.

Greetings BillB! With all due respect, you'll wrong on the Monday nite football thing.
At halftime, Howard would weigh in on the previous day's highlights. Here's one I loved. A Vikings game with RB Chuck Foreman.
Howard: "Foreman takes the handoff inside, nothing there, bounces off, heads around the right corner and...YOU'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE!!!"

BillB I know where you're coming from as well. He often made you pick a side. Unfortunately he picked a side and stuck to it regardless of the facts.

Tex Cobb should be in boxing's HOF convincing Cosell to cease covering boxing.lking forward." - On Cosell refusing to following his fight with Larry Holmes , Cobb: "If I eliminate heart disease, if I walk on water, if I come up with a cure for crippled kids, I can't image a greater gift to mankind. That is my greatest accomplishment."

    Honorable mention to Scott LeDoux!

Gutteridge as a commentator in his later years was at times disrespectful to fighters. A brilliant writer though.

Not anywhere near howards class or harry carpwnters.these were two very special human beings.cosell is a legend

I love Randy Cobb and that's one of the biggest reasons. I am now a Scott LeDoux fan as well.

To me Reg Gutreridge had a big advantage over the other two gentleman.
Namely, he came from a boxing family, and he boxed himself and I doubt if he insulted fighters in the past or during his time.

I like Randy as well but LeDoux (and his handlers) IMO were pieces of white excrement.
If you didn't see it, Scott's fight with Holmes ended in a stoppage. LeDoux camp whined, saying Holmes thumbed Scott in the eye. A well-respected Chris Shenkle 'attempted' to interview the LeDoux camp after the fight and he was pushed, josled, and insulted thruout. Afterwards, somewhat embarrassingly, he interrupted Howard and said he had NEVER been so mistreated in an interview in his life! I saw it, he was right.
**** on LeDoux. A backwoods piece of white-trash that would have simply been a trashcan in ANY era.
