Irish sports journos I know and trust tell me it's pretty much an open secret where the finances come from. I'm not singling them out for that, they're not the first boxing promotion (or as has been the case in my profession record label) to be financed with illicit cash. Why I think a fighter would be mental to join them is bad things seem to happen to guys involved with them.

Now why I understand why you'd doubt an anonymous guy on an Internet forum, it doesn't make it any less true to me on the information I've received.

Apologies if I wasn't clear there, I meant that the fighters aren't being kept out of the firing line.

well it would be impossible to do so, if the rival gangs want to target the boxers they can do so

Yeah and it's why I think it'd be a risky move to sign with them.

The boxers are not being targeted - that much is very clear after Friday.
Jamie Moore was a case of mistaken identity in the dark by what was probably a fairly low-grade 'hit-man'.

Yes but if you hang with them there's a good chance something could happen because they made a mistake with your identity

You don't know who is being targeted and neither do we. A member of the Hutch family was shot in retaliation for the murder at the MGM weigh in today. Tensions are rising higher and higher and there are a lot of young criminals involved who are unpredictable. Who is to say they wouldn't target fighters or anyone connected to the Kinahans? This is all out war and emotions are going to be running high.

Now you have made it clear lencoreastside, as long as a boxer or coach is shot in a a case of mistaken identity or by a 'fairly low-grade hit-man' then it absolves all of the other parties of blame.

Do you listen to yourself or read your posts before you actually submit them at times? I know you are very biased towards anything Irish but this happening is inexcusable.

You can go ask Jamie Moore if the fact it was mistaken identity makes him feel better that he nearly lost his life and his kids would have been without their dad all for him carrying out his job as a boxing coach? There is no way for anyone to try make that sound normal.

Personally I would not like any of my boxers sign with MGM off the back of this but no one can stop a fighter from doing so, it is their careers at the end of the day and if they think a few extra quid in their pockets is worth the risk then best of luck to them.

I really hope that this shooting at the weigh in was a 1 off incident but I fear this might just be the start of things to come, if these were 'top hit-men' then I would like to think they didn't have to do this shooting at a public weigh in where innocent people might get hurt. I also see that there has already been another gang attack most likely a retaliation to what happened Friday!! This looks like it will get messy and I would like to think that any boxers with a contract with MGM would be able to cancel with immediate effect if they wished to do so.
