Thoughts? I don't see Walker winning this. It seems he liked more static targets. Anyone want to convince me otherwise?

I think it depends on which Giardello shows up and even then Im not sure he has a chance. The Giardello who lost to Langlois and blew his title shot would lose to Walker. Walker wasn't unbeatable though and some of the guys he lost to fought sort of similar to Giardello. I could see this one playing out several ways but more often than not I think Walker would take a decision.

I like giardello, he was a beautiful boxer with even more beautiful moves but I've seen very little of the toy bulldog

I agree that Walker wasn't unbeatable at the weight, but I think he was at his best at middleweight. On the night Giardello beat Tiger for the title, that was the best Joey for me...(It's been awhile since I've watched those fights, so bear with me) Tiger made an adjustment of closing distance faster when he got another shot at Giardello, and it made all the difference. Walker could close distance quicker than Tiger, and with Walker's physicality I think Joey has trouble. I think Walker takes a clear decision. Better fighter overall.

Unless stated otherwise, I always assume prime versus prime versions here. For Joey, the Tiger or Carter wins. For Walker, the Berlenbach victory (?)...

Tricky one to call. I think I'd give Walker the edge as he was a tad more consistent.

Thats my problem. By the time he fought tiger and carter he was ancient. Physically he was a much better fighter nearly a decade earlier but he was smarter and more mature against tiger so its hard to pin down how he would have done against walker prime for prime because what was joeys prime: the fifties when he was a fast, strong headcase or the 60s when he was a smarter but slower fighter with a lot ringwear whose face could bust open like a ripe tomatoe.

In the fight against carter he was nothing specual at all. That fight was there for carter to win but he left too much in reserve and joey just outsmarted him.

Agreed but Tiger and Carter are great wins for him.

Likewise, Walker didn't do all that much at middle but achieved more at welter and heavy.

Joey at this best would outfox and outbox Mickey IMO.

Agree with Klompton that Joey was ancient in that title win against Tiger...but for my money, that was Joey's best overall fight. But with that said...imo Walker closes distance better, changes levels better, and has the strength and know how to clamp down on Joey...It's hard to look clever when someone quicker on their feet, gets inside, pins your arms, and slams your ribs. In this for me...the younger Giardello wasn't savy enough...and the older Giardello wasn't good enough.
Addendum: Giardello doesn't have the power to get Walker's respect.
