Ever heard of a captive audience? What can the regular citizens of mainland China do besides watch if it is on prime time and there are not many channels.

If that was done in Hon Kong then thats different, but mainland China does not have as much liberties.

There are HUNDREDS of Chinese channels, from what I understand this was shown on 2 of them, Starsports and CCTV5

 

That just shows how obsolete PPV is and how insignifigant PPV numbers are on a world level

 

Big numbers. China has a large base, but with how fresh pro boxing is in that country, that's a strong draw.

I always like to hear of these big viewership numbers in foreign countries. Canelo drew like 19 million against Kirkland and 23 against Cotto in Mexico. It just goes to reinforce the globalization of the sport. :good

Are there that many channels? I thought they were very limited, even more so than Europeans, with their meager cable selection since the government has a monopoly on broadcasting. I remember a decade ago their daily news program used to get 200 million viewers on average and was the most watched show in the world even though it's format was the same as American news in the 80s. They censor the internet and tv there so that's got to limit the number of things they get to watch.

I've heard that their numbers are down over the last few years, probably due to more channels and better selection of shows, but they still pull 1 billion viewer ratings at this annual spring festival show, which is kind of like their Super Bowl.
