Those are the numbers that have Bob Arum rubbing his little hands together and daydreaming in anticipation.
He turned pro far too late. He has a ridiculously amateurish style. However, his amateur exploits did help with these viewing figures as Zou was already massive in China before he turned pro.
What? I am one of the few Kiwi posters on this forum. Don't try and pawn that lame chit off on me. Cool story bro. Needed more dragons. :hi:
I can happily say their are hundreds as i went through several hundred looking for Starsports. According to Wikipedia- Again staying with Wikipedia CCTV5 are expecting MONSTER numbers for this show tomorrow - http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/boxing/2016-02-10/doc-ifxpmpqt1048999.shtml and the following day with Qiu Xiao Jun fighting Raymond Commey Also according to Dan Rafael, only 6.5 million of that 36.5 million came from CCTV 5, suggesting a bit of a flop in all honestly. He also claimed 30 million was from the international stream, not sure how many of you folks watched that but the stream (over youtube) was absolutely terrible. I tuned into CCTV5 as a result of the youtube stream being low quality, buggy and generally ****
if the PBC shows drew even a 3rd of that audience, they would actually have a chance on making a profit.
If China develops a champion that can fight at Manny or GGG level, the number will reach 200,000,000 worldwide
Insane how small boxing is... not sure about other sports but: here's the facts and comparison for perspective. Chinese population is 1.38 billion. US Population is 323 million. Shiming captured 2.65% of the Chinese population. Garcia vs Guerrero captured only .78% of the US population. Kovalev vs Pascal II? Only .36%. Golovkin vs Monroe Jr is at .40%.
Here's more fun. Assuming Both PBC and HBO spent the same amount of money on these events all together and made the same amount from ads... For arguments sake, we'll go with $6 million for the events all together, and $4 million generated from companies selling a product. Both China and PBC went -$2 million, although not so much China since Shiming fought under HBO but it was free in China so **** it we'll go with it. HBO made a profit of $15.7 mil and $17.5 mill on Kovalev and Golovkin, respectfully.
Using number of households would be a good metric here as well as total population, but your point is still valid. Put that into perspective for Mexico, where Alvarez-Kirkland drew 19 million and Alvarez-Cotto drew something like 23 million. And that's off a population of ~120 million and around 31 million households (120/3.8 average household size). Wlad routinely gets between 10-15 million viewers in Germany (80 million population, ~37 million households).
