Afolabi sparred him and said Gassiev hits twice as hard with 16oz gloves as most of his pro opponents do with 10oz. :think

Ask any given sparring partner who’s been in there with him and they will tell you he’s a small heavyweight who fights like a big heavyweight.

“Murat Gassiev – that motherf****r hits hard,” heavyweight contender Chris Arreola said of his experience while training with the Russian banger in Big Bear, California.

The two worked in the same gym space for their recent training camps. Arreola was preparing for his December 12 showdown with Travis Kauffman, a fight he won by split decision. The final outcome was disputed, but Arreola’s energy at fight’s end was attributed to the work he put in during his time in Big Bear, also crediting Gassiev as one of the fighters who pushed him in the gym.

“He caught me in the ribs during one sparring session, I just never been hit like that before,” Arreola admitted. “This was a camp I was already determined to leave as a trim and ready fighter, but I knew I couldn’t half-ass it when he was there. Whenever I saw him in the gym when I arrived, I was like “F***, not that guy again.” But he makes you work in the gym, he makes you a better fighter.” :think

Afolobi wasn't impressive when he was getting beaten pillar to post by that Cruiserweight Russian that won the Heavyweight gold medal in 2008. Then the russian got put to sleep, KTFO'd. All those barner fights at cruserweight but folks still don't know their names. Boxing fans are that full of ****.

It sounds like Arreola was surreptitiously dancing around fully admitting that he got knocked out by a body shot. :think

That Russian got KTFO'd so I don't need to know his name! You casual fans claim to want to see fighters bash their heads in! That fight was hilarious which is why I had to mention it just to see how the Russians react to seeing one of their own put to sleep right in front of them.

Lewis Gassed said that someone on another forum said that Gassiev knocked out Youri Kalenga in sparring. I know they definitely sparred each other but I have no idea if there's any truth to it. Be impressive it it were true though as Kalenga is one teak-tough SOB.

It's not like that was a shocker, Chakhkiev has already been put to sleep before that.

Gassy has knocked out 16 of 22 foes, and scorEd at least one knockdown (in some cases several) against nineteen of them. His best KO scalp to date, given the No Contest outcome with Thomas, is probably Felix Cora Jr. (went the distance with Lateef Kayode and prime Ding-a-Ling Man Wilson), which is nice but nothing special...but he did also drop the usually durable journeyman Danny Perez twice and force him to quit after just one round...the fastest Peret has ever been stopped.

Since the first couple of months after his debut, Gassiev has stopped and/or dropped everybody he faced except Cool Abdoul...notoriously slick, cagey, and sturdy-chinned.
