Most great, or even good, fighters don't shuffle around like a hophead mummy against Hearns. Kudos to Tommy for seeing what was in front of him and capitalizing but Duran was begging to be KO'd.

 

Every guy toney got on that list for was either badly faded or a punch sponge or both. Pretending toney wasnt lazy in or out of the ring is ignoring reality.

 

I can definitely see Hagler taking out a middleweight Toney. Southpaw Reggie Johnson laid Toney on his ass with a looping left hand and Reggie wasn't exactly a high powered puncher nor the pace-machine that Hagler could be. That even sounds like a probable outcome given Toney's often feeble state during his middleweight career.

 

yeah but that isnt taking into account the punches Hearns landed on Duran right prior to him getting KO'd, they were HUGE shots as well.

There are more ways to stop someone than just one-punch cracking their chin.

Toney could be put into distress by pace and movement. He never liked fighting three minutes a round. I think that a prime Hagler would have a very good chance of flooring him and potentially stopping him at middleweight. Same for Greb.

Nah. DURAN was inviting that punch like a moron. He had been rocked way before that punch. Hagler probably stops for a complete second from that shot.

 

I don't believe any man could stop Toney. Just the impression he's left on me. Same goes for Hagler. Toney did a great job of picking his shots. He shouldn't be called lazy for being a counter puncher and defensive wizard

 

There is no nonsense in saying that Toney got rocked repeatedly at middleweight. He was susceptible to leads, especially lead lefts and he was often outhustled put into distress by pace, even by fighters far less talented. You combine these two elements in a fighter like Greb or especially Hagler and you have a recipe for disaster.

Again, thinking that boxing, or even KO's, are all about power is a simp's game. It's not a d*ck measuring contest. It's about applying your power consistently in such a way to break down your opponent, to burn a hole right through him and take away his will to return fire. It's almost never about cold-c*cking a guy with devastating one-shot.

Just went and revisited the Johnson fight, it's been so long.

I will definitely expand my pick and include a truckload of Middleweights after seeing Johnson (not a big puncher) drop him cold and stagger him.

Guys like Hagler and Monzon would be a big chance of wearing him down to a stoppage. Hitman Hearns would also have a great chance of getting the job done. SRR too. It's definitely an open book at Middleweight.

 

Even cast iron chins can be cracked. Look at Robinson vs Fullmer or Nunn vs Kalambay. Assuming we aren't mismatching him against heavyweights, Bob Foster or Archie Moore could definitely do it.
