Yeah I like a bunch of their songs. I don't own any of their albums (I did own one once though) but I love Who Knows Where The Time Goes, She Moves Through The Fair, Crazy Man Michael, Matty Groves, A Sailor's Life, Tam Lin, Come All Ye and I'm sure there's a couple more I'm forgetting. Who Knows Where The Times Goes is such a beautiful song. Sandy Denny has the voice of an angel.
Saw The Pogues in brixton a few years ago, so amazing live. MacGowan is a criminally underrated writer.
I love his haters, really funny and dumb. Ohh he didnt win junior olympic lol yeah Tyson did win it but didnt even qualify for real ones Only fight of his that it wasnt scored right is Froch fight, judges gave to much to Froch. But keep hating.
:good I saw Christy in 2004, at the Fleadh festival, Finsbury Park, London. He was amazing. I was in heaven because after I'd watched him I got to see Counting Crows, followed by Bob Dylan who headlined it. I've always wanted to see Christy again, but I never have. I'd love it if he came near Sheffield.
I wanted to see them for years and years, and in 2008 I finally got my chance. I was really excited, but I was worried because I'd been reading some negative reviews on Shane. But he was absolutely brilliant, note perfect. It's probably the best gig I've been to, other than seeing Bob in Cardiff from about 6ft away. That's funny about the acid. Ha! That's the kind of thing why I was worried. Your friend was so lucky. That's great. It doesn't surprise me though. I'd love it if they came back. I'd definitely go again. At the 2008 gig, I went on my own and got talking to this bloke in his 50's. We were both drinking and chatting before they came on. When they came on, we both went to the front. It was absolutely mental. People diving all over, beer everywhere. Just complete carnage. After about 20 mins, I'd lost him. He'd just vanished. Then at the end of the gig after the lights had come on, two paramedics came running in with a stretcher. There was a guy laid out in front of the stage. It was the guy who I'd met. They put him on the stretcher and carried him out with an oxygen mask on. On the way out, he saw me. He took off his mask and ordered the paramedics to stop. "Rob!" he shouted. "F*ck me, what a gig my friend! I'm off to hospital now, you take of care of yourself buddy. Happy Christmas!" Then they carried him out while he was singing A Pair Of Brown Eyes. Ha! I'll never forget it. :good
They're great, especially the early stuff that you've noted. Yeah, Sandy was amazing. My favourite song is Crazy Man Michael.
I used to work in a shop and there was this old crazy guy who used to come in. He was small in stature and rather fail looking. He was Irish and very religious and of course he loved his booze. Sometimes he'd drop by or walk past the shop window and wave and he was as nice as pie, very polite and softly spoken albeit. still crazy, and other times he come by when he'd been drinking or was having one of his turns and he was effing and blinding and shouting at people, including us, and being loud, confrontational and aggressive. He was Jekyll and Hyde and you never knew which one was going to turn up. One time I was standing behind the shop door chatting to someone and he pushed the door open violently as he was walking by (and it was a large heavy door with a large window) and shouted obscenities at us. It was totally out of the blue and I had no idea he was there. Luckily I saw it coming towards me out of the corner of my eye (and it would've hit me hard in the face and done some nasty damage such was the force he pushed it with) and I just managed to jump out of the way in the nick of time. One time he walked past the shop dressed in a monk's robe. It was very surreal to see He used to bring us holy water too. Anyway, his name was Michael aka Mad Michael. So that's who I think of whenever I hear that song. He had a proper mad face too.
Great story. Yeah I know their gigs are mental. Lots of drunk people jumping around, arms and elbows flailing. They came up from the punk scene (well at least MacGowan did) so that partially explains that.
Reynardine is great too. I forgot that one. I like virtually everything I've heard of theirs and Sandy Denny's. It's my kind of music.
He's an amazing writer. I love his lyrics. He's a great character too. Did the song inspire your user name? [YT]otP9K0YzOts[/YT]
Can't believe we're having this conversation on an Andre Ward thread. Ward and his repulsive fans make me puke. I genuinely despise them. Like I would sign up to go to war against them. I really mean that. No joke.
