Full due respect to you as a fighter Luke keep up the good work. I will say this though, people keep peddling the line that MGM are passionate about boxing etc.... I will say it one last time, its a money laundering racket (allegedly). You do know how these gangsters make their money in reality? The top quality facilities, the lifestyle they provide fighters in Marbella (which is always described as treating the fighters well), this is all paid for through certain activities and its not a love of boxing. Its that simple. Now you may have limited opportunities to get a spot on cards, but you also are capable of making a moral decision should you need to. Its all well and good saying that bills need to be paid, families need feeding etc.. but its in essence a decision to turn a blind eye to what these guys really do, and take their money. Its just not right. Countless of people every day turn down advances of criminals in their area to distribute their goods, they probably have little other ways of making a living but they persevere and get by. And they find something else. If the only way to get on a boxing show is to hop into bed with a gang of hardened criminals (and lets be clear thats exactly what they are, regardless of whether they treat the lads to a top quality camp in the sun) then quite frankly maybe you are in the wrong game. You are turning a blind eye to it. Its that simple. And by taking the cash you are in essence aiding and abetting this alleged money laundering racket they have going on. Its not a "love of boxing". Its a viable way of turning their crooked money into "legitimate" funds. The very core of it is rotten and its a shame to see so many good boxing people aligned to it. I'm sure some have no idea but id imagine due to necessity some of them don't really give a **** where the dough comes from.
And ....er....Puca old chap, exactly HOW is the great and good Mr. Christle going to become "assured that this promotional company is not being ran or funded heavily by characters that may attract this type of incident again",....You are asking the impossible there surely.....its a bit like "when did you stop beating your wife?" ......I thought we were all innocent until proven guilty....please explain that to me will you? And secondly....in the meantime Puca, who pays the boxers bills? :nono
The fighters should find another way of paying their bills mate, instead of relying on the money of criminals to prop themselves up. They will have to soon enough when MGM are not touched with a barge pole.
was actually going to go to the mgm show in Edinburgh next month but really don't feel like giving them the money now
You make your case very well. But you case lacks one critical element - proof of wrongdoing by MGM. But leaving that aside for a second: OK lets say for a moment MGM was founded on filthy drug money. 100% proceeds of drug dealing. Worst possible scenario. Human misery to the nth degree etc etc Ok? Could a case be made for saying that those drugs would be sold/bought/consumed anyway - even if MGM never existed? Could someone say that at least this way some good comes of the money? Lots of people all over the world say the war on drugs is unwinnable 'legalise drugs, tax the profits and plough the money back into society, providing facilities etc etc - in exactly the type of way that MGM are doing? Finally - what if - what if - all the 'experts' are wrong about MGM management. Even if the business was initially founded by dodgy money, what if MGM management today really are trying to go straight and just run a top class boxing operation. Hard and all as that might be believe. Is that impossible? Would all the boxers who speak highly of MGM be doing it unless there was some good in MGM? Are they all lying? We dont live in a perfect world. Shouldn't a guy be given a chance to go straight? You don't choose your parents. What about the boxers who lose out if MGM gets frozen out or shut down?
Len your obviously a bit slow so I'll give you a pass, I for one will not be attending another mgm show fuk that getting caught in the crossfire I have witnessed it once before and fuk*ed if it happens again, I'd imagine some of the boxers are the same and I also know for a fact some boxers wouldn't get involved with mgm for the same reason .
id tend to agree moorser was going to go to the Stephen simmons show in Edinburgh next month but didn't feel like paying 60 quid when they havnt announced he's opponent yet and when I saw it was an mgm show not a hope, wouldn't give them the money
All right - as I said to Moorser - you are entitled to spend your money or not as you want. If everyone boycotts MGM the boxers will lose out though.....
Thankfully I wasnt at the weigh in so wasnt directly effected therefore most likely I will be more inclined to go to the next show if it ever happens. I cant imagine that [shootings] ever happening again at another weigh in or boxing match. Maybe I'm being an optimist but thats the way I see it.
Marty the safest place in Ireland for the foreseeable future will be a boxing weigh-in or fight. :deal :thumbsup (Its like wheres the best place to go on holidays - the resort where theres just been a terrorist attack - cheapest prices, rolls-royce treatment cos theyre sooo grateful for your business - and 100% safe with airtight security!!)
