http://ringtv.craveonline.com/news/410833-bill-caplans-20-greatest-heavyweights Interesting list from a guy who watched them all Louis Ali Holmes Marciano Foreman Frazier Lewis Holyfield Tunney Dempsey Liston Norton Bowe Walcott Patterson Vitali klit Tyson Quarry Ellis Wlad Klit
I was surprised how low he had Tyson, as I'm sure many will be. I also have Tyson lower than most but not quite this low. Like seeing Holyfield in the top 10 👍🏻
I disagree with a lot on that list but my only major issues are Tunney making the top 10, and Tyson/Wladimir not making the top 15. Tunney has no business being in the top 10. He beat Dempsey twice, an over the hill Dempsey, and then retired. Michael Spinks beat Holmes twice too, and yet even though he ranks Holmes significantly higher than Dempsey, Spinks doesn't make the top 20? Quite hypocritical. Tyson absolutely makes the top 10, but it's too difficult to make a case for him when he fizzled out so quickly and you know his detractors have so much material to work with. It's pointless. Wladimir Klitschko being at number 20 is perhaps the most ridiculous ranking on that list. Below Ellis and Quarry??? Seriously??? Whether people like it or not, Wlads accomplishments are jaw-dropping and he blows guys like Dempsey and Marciano away on resume. He is an ABSOLUTE LOCK for the top 10, debatable top 5. Ridiculous.
He has some odd choices for sure, as I am a bit obsessed with lists I can tell you I have looked at 100's over my 30+ years of boxing watching. I think this may be the first time I have ever witnessed Ellis making a top 20...... Like I said in my earlier post Tyson is way to low. I always maintain that Holyfield should be over Tyson but they should be much closer together.
Mine is usually something like this 1. Louis 2. Ali 3. Holmes 4. Holyfield 5. Foreman 6. Johnson 7. Frazier 8. Marciano 9. Tyson 10. Lewis Sometimes Johnson is higher or lower for me, same with Lewis and Marciano.
My current Top 10: 1. Ali 2. Louis 3. Johnson 4. Dempsey 5. Marciano 6. Foreman 7. Liston 8. Tyson 9. Frazier 10. Holmes
Klitschko has a much better resume than Marciano. The only thing Marciano has going for him is the 0. Klitschko is superior in terms of dominance, longetivity, and he probably beat a better caliber of opposition as well. Although Moore and Charles were P4P giants they weren't all that as heavyweights. Walcott was pretty good but inconsistent and on the brink.
