Bigger and more powerful can go a long way. And Wilder's skills are very underrated. Go back and watch the Stiverne fight.

Povetkin is more like Stiverne than Wilder detractors want to admit, but I think Povetkin is more dangerous and aggressive. But by that same token, he will also expose himself more than Stiverne did so it make actually work against him, definitely a better chance of getting knocked out. And if he fights conservative like Stiverne did, Wilder will just pummel him and move out of the way all night.

I think Povetkin has to take the fight to Wilder and try to crack his chin, and by doing so he will put himself more at risk as well. Wilder proved his power sustains well into the fight with that bomb he landed on Spzilka.

Wilder shortened up on that right and ducked under after he fired it...you don't see that in the heavyweight division.

Mark Breland has really moved Wilder along well.

    Close to 50/50 fight.

I'd make Wilder a slight favorite due to the fact that the fight is happening in the US, and should it go full 12 rounds, I'd expect judges to be very favorable to Wilder (especially since we've seen the controversial Szpilka scores) so it will be very difficult for Povetkin to win a decision.

Povetkin is definitely more skilled, but we'll see if his skill will be enough to overcome the big height and reach disadvantages.

Wilder is definitely no Wlad in the intelligence department, but he should be smart enough to utilize on his height and reach and keep boxing and moving. On the top of that, he has very good power that could end the fight if Povetkin gets too careless.

    Slight edge to Wilder.

I wonder why Povetkin's team is not pushing to have the fight in Russia or elsewhere? Seems like they want to expose him in America where he has never fought before.

people are reading to much into this
the article states that lou dibella wants to stage the fight in new york

ryabinski has not got back to him.

    thats basically it.

IMO ryabinski will let this run to purse bids and see what comes from it.
what does he have to gain unless haymon puts up large numbers.

so far he has paid wilder opponents about 100k to 200k

ryabinski has very deep pockets so this quote to the press by dibella means what ?

to use an anology as i see it with this article.

a house is on the market for 5 million / you offer 500k and the seller refuses to acknowledge your offer ,but you tell everyone you hope to get it anyway.

Stiverne was too slow in the Wilder fight to be compared to Povetkin. Stiverne has fast hands for a heavy but Povetkin is faster (and more important, much faster on his feet, even at this late stage in his career). Sasha will do better at cutting off the ring, so Wilder will have to be faster than vrs. Stiverne to evade him.

I don't see Wilder being able to deal with Povetkin on the inside unless he can learn to clinch like Wlad. But even if he did, it won't be as effective because Wilder is >20 lighter. Besides, it would be too much of a style change and therefore isn't realistic.

Wilder's best bet is to utilize movement and the jab and run from Sascha the whole night (similar to the strat vrs Stiverne). With improvement he could potentially beat Povetkin this way.

Unfortunately, Wilder's jab isn't quite good enough. Right now, Povetkin cuts off the ring and eventually lands some big combos. Once Deontay gets stunned and stops evading, then Sasha will get the KO or TKO.

Definitely a puncher's chance for Wilder though if he can land a lucky right hand.

If he gameplans right, he can survive more than 4 rounds. Without a KO he has no path to win.

Wilder has trouble with guys who are elusive, awkward and fight at range. He won't have that trouble with Povetkin who will have to close the range to have any success and I don't believe Povetkin is fast enough or slick to avoid getting caught as he moves in.

Povetkin himself wants it to happen in US, his promoter might still drag it to purse bids.

He has actually. If he cuts off the ring well and stay on the inside, he can outland Wilder all night long with his superior inside game and combination punching. I think It's safe to say Wilder doesn't have Wlad's experience or strength to clinch and maul on Sasha everytime he gets inside.

One of the easiest fights for Povetkin lately.
