Many say that Ward will smother Kovalev's power and wont let him get his shots off.

SOB Ward is too weak to smother Kovalev. Kovalev would knock Froch out cold easily. Ward does not have the power to keep Kovalev off him and Kovalev is no stupid enough to allow Ward to fight him in Ward's home town, with Ward's personal referee, boxing commission, judges, etc. Ward has never fought anyone as strong as Kovalev, one good punch and SOB will go down..............

Why the hell you think SOG needs to smother Kovalev, when Kovalev can't outbox SOG. :huh

DeGale is very good but he isn't knocking Ward out, he isn't out pointing him either. Power aside I think everything is in Ward's favor

It's very easy to know who has the style to beat Ward. It's the guys that Ward avoids, like Bute, Groves, DeGale, Andre Dirrell.

Well, Ward is definitely not a class above James DeGale.

There is nothing that Ward has done that suggests that he would be able to outbox Andre Dirrell.

While DeGale didn't clearly outbox Dirrell (close fight with knockdowns making the difference), he surely did manage to secure a legit victory, something that I always questioned whether Ward is able to do or not.

Darnell Boone hit him with an uppercut that had him flopping around the canvas like a fish. And Kenny Kost rocked him with a hook in his 2nd fight and had him hurt.

Ward decided against facing Degale, wasnt showing interest in facing Bute after the S6, didnt face Andre Dirrell.
I am not sure Ward will face Kovalev until he has certain things stacked to his advantage.
If Kovalev is tight at the weight and drained to make LHW, then I think it could happen.
If Kovalev were to suffer a surprise loss, I have a feeling Ward would quickly jump to face the winner and then not have to fave Sergey.
I think Ward may stay fresh against opposition that is not too tough and after Kovalev has several tough draining fights and ready to be beaten, think then Ward may face Kovalev
