Best performance you've seen in person?

Marvin Hagler v Alan Minter. The atmosphere was so hostile toward Hagler and he wasn't phased one bit; Minter was a genuine world championship calibre fighter who had only ever been defeated on cuts...and Hagler absolutely destroyed him.

Minter's cuts saved him from an absolutely brutal, devastating knockout...those cuts were actually good for Minter's health!

 

Probably Tyrone Everett vs Escalera at the Spectrum in I think 1976. Tyrone boxed his ears off but was robbed of the decision in his own hometown.

 

Paul Williams beating Margarito or Rigo beating Donaire.

My brother managed to see Corrales-Castillo.

Burt, I don't think that fight destroyed Randy Turpin but he definitely never reached those heights again.
The 1951 Randy Turpin would have always given Sugar Ray Robinson a rough night.
A third fight in the UK and the Licker may have made it 2-1

 

Who said I am British ? And yes I am in that age category sir, and I still have my wits about me...No crime in that sir....

 

T, Ray Robinson was a greater welterweight than a MW, and yes Randy Turpin would have had a shot to beat SRR if they had fought a third time. But Turpin did deteriorate quickly sometime after their fight at the old Polo Grounds...

 

I agree Robbie was a better welter than a middle.
Randy started having weight problems not long after his win over Don ****ell but only for his heart ruling his head, he should have handily beaten Bobo Olson.He only trained sporadically in the states and didn't spar at all.
He said to his brothers that his heart wasn't in the fight and he just wanted to go home to his girl friend.
Its my opinion that all the booth fighting that British fighters of that era took part in contributed to their careers being shorter than they should and the Licker was one of them.
Having said that, Jack kid Berg who didn't fight in the booths, peaked at 19 and was finished in his early 20s

PS. I always marvel at Randy dragging his corner men who had all jumped on his back to stop what they thought was their man wanting to continue fighting.
He simply wanted to congratulate Robinson.

 

I have never seen the Robinson vs Turpin (2) fight. was there any knock downs?

 

F, no there were no knockdowns but in the final round Robinson went all out and had the brave Randy Turpin out on his feet forcing the referee to stop the fight...

BB, I don't use the term "greatest fighter I ever saw" lightly...But when I say Ray Robinson was truly the best fighter since Harry Greb [ I didn't
of course see Harry Greb fight, but my dad did], I mean it without reservation...As a welterweight SRR had to be seen to be appreciated with his almost 6 ft, height, classy boxing stance, rugged chin, and
spectacular blazing fast and deadly combination punching that made him easily the best boxer I ever saw. No hyperbole...
