I think his best filmed performance...at least with Schmeling.

    Shame we don't have more.

It was a solid knockout win over a durable contender with a good record.. But not knowing that much about Comiskey myself, who did he beat and how good of a career fighter was he? I know he was briefly ranked around 1940.

Comiskey was widely seen as the outstanding contender for Joe Louis’s title, going into his fight with Max Baer.

This fight is the reason we never saw Louis Comiskey.

This fight was his last flash of the old magic.

You know if any footage of Baer's vaunted body attack exists?

It is something that comes up in reports like Farr 2 and Levinsky but never seemed to surface in his filmed fights.

Here's a video of Baer - Levinsky II. Not sure how any reasonable person could watch it and still insist that these men had the same physical ability and technical skills of the top heavies of the late 70s/early 80s.

    Use 80's cameras
Cut off the bottom half of their bodies from the shot

    Will look similar

    Absolutely not.

No camera/camera angle in the world would make a prime/near-prime Larry Holmes look like one of these guys. Ditto for men like Carl Williams, Tony Tubbs, and Greg Page even. They are an entirely different level (or two or three) in terms of talent and technique.

You are missing the point here.

This is a guy who made a career out of beating people who were more technically skilled than him.

Being more technically skilled than him was no guarantee of beating him, or of making it out of the first round for that matter.

I appreciate the rare find but not the insult.

Obviously not pretty, its Baer using his physical talent to draw a boxer into an ugly brawl for 20 rounds in the heat

It doesn't look like far off from Weaver 's Coetzee highlights. Lots of measuring and crude mauling in that one too.

Couldn't disagree more. Check out the highlights on youtube and watch Tate's jab and punch variety. Offensively, he is far more advanced than either of these men. Also worth pointing out that for all the hyperbole about Baer's huge size, Tate dwarfs him physically (and Weaver is a significantly bigger, stronger, sturdier man than Kingfish).
