Just because it is that way doesn't mean it should be that way. Just because boxing is a business doesn't mean it isn't a sport. Sports should value fair competition and the value of their championships.

"A side" doesn't get to dictate things that are regulated by the rules of boxing.

He can get to choose the corner color, to be announced last, ring walk, eventually a top name billing, things like that.

Weight is regulated by the rules of governing bodies and a boxer has no say on the weight which is already determined for each weight class by boxing rules and regulations.

Canelo has no right to enforce a private agreement on the weight and Golovkin is allowed to reject any such proposal which would force Canelo to either fight at the full 160lb limit or surrender his title.

In this particular case, the rules of boxing are clearly on Golovkin's side and he has no legal or any other obligation to accept a private weight deal with Canelo.

It's either fight like a man or surrender your title.

    Well said.

You can understand that's the way things are, but how can you not get annoyed, at the very least, of all this catchweight ****?

It's bad for the sport, and I fear one of these days it will lead to something tragic.

Boxing is dangerous enough as it is, it's even more so if a fighter is super drained.
Looks like Floyd has taken up the crackpipe in his retirement. If Alvarez agreed to his own silly weight demands because he wanted a payday then that's up to him. However, as a genuine fan of the sport, rather than a lovesick teenybopper style groupie of one particular fighter, there is no reason why this matter should even be up for debate. Golovkin holds the WBA and IBF middleweight titles. Alvarez holds the WBC and paper titles. The middleweight limit is 160lbs. QED. As a genuine fan of the sport, I have no interest in "ner ner my fighter earns more money than yours so ha ha" p---ing contests unlike most of this board. I simply want to see the best fight the best and the fights decided by who is the better fighter, not due to the fact that one man is entering the ring with the dice loaded in his favour.

If Alvarez wants to vacate the WBC belt and stop getting in the way of genuine middleweights fighting for it, step back to 154 and then talk about catchweight fights then fair enough. However, it is a disgrace for a fighter to be going round calling himself a world middleweight champ but refusing to fight at, or even near, the middleweight limit (and that's from someone who, until this whole sorry saga, actually quite liked him). Boxing has weight divisions for a reasons. I don't think any genuine fan of the sport can defend this bull-s!!!
100% agreed! Unfortunately for fans like you and I, the boxing world doesn't work that way! At the end of the day, the sport we love is a business! CA is the bigger money maker thus he makes the demands! What we think matters very little, because the fans will never stick together and protest this catchweight fight if it ever happens!

Think of the message it would send to the boxing puppet masters if this fight sold under 100k on PPV. If the fans expressed their disgust with this catchweight nonsense on every boxing web site. I will bet things would change real fast and catchweights would be a thing of the past. We just need to stick together.

    Bull.

Mandatory is at 160. Canelo can fight or vacate.

    That's the way it is.

    :hi:

I figured another GGG fan will be a clueless moron. Both were champions in this fight. Mayweather the WBA Champion and Alvarez the WBC Champion.

154.1 all the way to 160 is officially considered Middleweight. If this was illegal in any way, the commission will get involved. Continue crying and remember to tune in for GGG's next joke fight with tears running down your eyes, ears and ass.

I'll wait for GGG to drag up Danny Garcia to an agreed catchweight of 157 then come in at 160 for the weight in :hi:

What ****es me off with Canelo is that he is always insisting on 155. He doesn't even try to redeem himself by offering 157/158.

It could just be part of negotiations. Maintain a hard stance on 155 so they can eventually compromise to 157/158. All we're seeing is interviews and press releases, not the actual behind-the-scenes negotiating, which I suspect will get more serious once Canelo beats Khan and GGG beats Wade.

Mind you it only makes it less ****py if it is 157 or 158 compared to 155, it still sucks if it isn't 160. How can anyone not be sick of all this catchweight nonsense?
