I watched Whitaker-Rivera I recently and was very very very - bear with me - very very very impressed with Rivera's right to the body.
Duran and Dejesus Almost anything with Marciano I seem to remember Jones stopping Hill with a bodypunch, and the same result between Hopkins and Oscar.
Eddie Gregory/Mustafa Muhammed Gave a very clinical display of Body Punching when taking the Lt Heavy Title off of Marvin Johnson.
If you are looking for actual fights: * Tyson vs Ruddock 1. Tyson loads up on right hooks to the body all night. Tyson throws is a lot of his body/uppercut right hand combo. Brutal stuff. * McCallum vs Julian Jackson. Jackson is bombing away upstairs all the while Mike is punishing his body. Its an absolute clinic about on slipping and countering to the body in the pocket. * Michael Moorer vs Bert Cooper. I just watched this recently. Lots of body punching and clean hard shots from both guys. Bert uses the tyson-like right hand hook/body-uppercut combo. Moorer even lets Bert jump-set and fire off long right hand hooks to his body without missing a beat. No idea what MM was thinking in that bout but he made is the hardest fight possible for himself. * Arguello vs Ganigan - Arguello starts off slow getting banged on but comes home strong with a vicious body attack. His right uppercut to the body literally folds Ganigan over and pushes him back in the 4th and 5th rounds. Great finish and its predicated on a strong body attack. * Pacquiao vs Barrera 1 - Manny's attack is so complete. He never neglects the body and his pace is incredible. Literally non stop for 11 rounds. * Hagler vs Mugabi - most noticeably after the 6th round. Hagler has withstood Mugabi's crazy power and starts to operate on the inside with more confidence. Very very short inside punches from Hagler but hes chipping away breaking his man down slowly. Masterclass body punching from Hagler. * I might take heat for this but...Garcia vs Judah. Mainly from the interesting perspective of how can fighter not use a jab and throw obvious long lead punches to body and still be successful. Garcia does this, his right uppercuts and hooks are from the outside and SO WIDE but he times them quite well. Garcia actually uses his body blows as his jab for much of this fight against the southpaw. Its really hard to do, no matter how much flack Garcia cops on this forum. Its not a masterpiece but any means but still fun to watch and learn.
Roberto Duran-Esteban Dejesus 2-3: From more so on both sides on the 2nd bout. The 3rd fight mainly from Duran. That was a virtuoso display from Duran. Brilliant defense, countering, and bodypunching Shane Mosley-Golden Johnson: Mosley has quite a few fights to choose from in which he gave beatings to the body. This is perhaps his best. Mike Tyson-Razor Ruddock 1-2: Ruddock took an absolute hammering to the body. He broke his jaw in the rematch and also reportedly suffered a broken rib as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUAG1bjht40 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcVJVvDTJeo
You know there's a moment, about halfway through the second Armstrong vs Garcia bout, in which Armstrong looks like he's about to punch a hole in Garcia.
Mosley was one of the best bodypunchers Ive ever seen but he got away from it later in his career which was odd because the instant he stopped bodypunching as much he became less effective.
Mosley before and after Forrest is so incredibly different. Not just the bodypunching (which I agree really limited him), but he threw less combinations, and was less able to in integrate offense with defense. A much more limited fighter.
Exactly. You hit the nail on the head. After the first Forrest fight it was like he was always holding back. Like he was afraid to commit and get countered. I always reckoned he had never really been hurt before Forrest and once he experienced that he was never wiling to really let it all hang out again and risk getting hurt again.
Yeah good points on Mosely. I remember him fighting an Austailian fighter named Taylor his body punching was epic. But Forrest ruined him. If he didn't get the gift against De La Hoya in the rematch (gift is a little strong but I felt Oscar beat him) he basically lost almost all his big fights against world class opponents post Forrest.
