I'm confused with this one lads. So how do you see Robinson stopping Floyd? I see Ray eventually overwhelming Floyd and stopping him mid to late, which imo also equates to out boxing him. Do you think Floyd out boxes Robinson until he gets hit with a lucky punch? Robinson can outbox Floyd by just sheer pressure, power and his Iron chin. Walk him down and whip in those brutal body shots. Floyd may well be a better technically sound boxer with slicker feet but that can go out the window vs guys like Robinson. Or even cruder looking greats like a Henry Armstrong.
Yeah, it's a weird fight. Mayweather always showed vulnerability to a double jab, SRR knew exactly when to use this. This should back Mayweather to move towards the ropes. I see SRR going for a leaping hook (snaps Mayweather's head back a little, SRR drags this through for block removal of Mayweather's high guard on the ropes, doubles on that left hook, Floyd changes levels to duck down in order to hold SRR, SRR creates distance to hit him on the head with a right hand (not very cleanly), causing Floyd to move towards SRR's left as he attempts to escape, SRR follows up immediately with a left hook, completely staggers Floyd and SRR takes him out. The problem with Mayweather is that he tends to get overwhelmed and shuts down, becoming a sitting duck. DLH landed some good shots but overwhelmingly gloves, Maidana was able to penetrate Mayweather's guard and rough him up, SRR however, reads his opponents defensive tendencies and uses that very information to his advantage... - All of this description is just an example of the very thing that makes SRR the GOAT..subtleties - this is probably his biggest strength that should be given more attention. This is why it won't be a lucky punch IMO. This is THE essential part of SRR's game that he builds upon, a reason why he's seen as a slower fighter. In terms of boxing, well....it is kinda true, SRR is the slower fighter lol and he thrives on a fighter who comes forward - any input by a fighter is then programmed into falling into SRR's traps. This is going to be considerably difficult in the first few rounds, but SRR will find his rhythm.
Another great post. I dont know how you do it, mate. I wish I could put thoughts into words like you do. Every time I try to write an intellectual post I end up getting all muddled up and leave a post that looks like it's been written by a person with Asbergers.
I wonder how Mayweather would have done against some of the taller welterweights. There were a few who were 6', 6'1 and 6'2, guys like Maurice Blocker, Milton McCrory, Mark Breland, Vernon Forrest. You really had to fight those guys aggressively when they were at their best. You have to brawl them a bit. Tall freaks like that can pick up rounds without doing much if you let them. It would have been interesting to see how Floyd would approach such a task. Most of the welters he faced were about 5'8, same as himself.
:rofl You have great posts and we have similar views in boxing, especially when we're trolling Floyd fanboys. :good
That's the problem, really. Genaro had a much smaller frame, far less powerful and stylistically disadvantaged vs a young prime and strong PBF at 130. Mayweather dominated Corrales who was tall, but not necessarily 'big and strong'. I think we would have liked to see the welterweight Mayweather vs much bigger guys i.e Vernon Forrest, Felix Trinidad, Thomas Hearns, Paul Williams, and those who Unforgiven listed.
Good spot, although Mayweather would use the ring far better and won't stay on the ropes for as long. Starling would definitely cause him some trouble, but I'd pick Mayweather in an 8-4 type competitive decision.
