He's not even the best fighter ever from his hometown.

Might want to work on that, as most experts would probably have Ketchel rated well ahead of Toney in both the middleweight and p4p ATG lists..

    Not really.

Ray was born in the South, lived in Detroit for a few years a child, then started boxing when he lived in Harlem.

He wasn't born in the Midwest nor did he live there when he was boxing. He merely lived there for a little while as a kid.

So he's as Midwestern as Lennox is Canadian.

It's not even that much connection....Lewis at least lived in Canada when he boxed as an amateur.

The only connection Ray has to the Midwest is living there as a child. He may have been born there, but other sources say he was born in Georgia.

If he was born in Detroit, then calling him a Midwest fighter is like calling Thomas Hearns a Tennessee fighter.

Robinson: moves to New York as a kid, grows up and learns to box in New York, lived in NY when he fought.

Hearns: born in TN, moves to Detroit as a kid, grows up and learns to box in Detroit, lives in Detroit area when he fought and trained in Detroit.

I remember seeing the video of Roger Mayweather claiming Ray Robinson was a Midwest fighter, and seeing that he was really reaching.

Is there really a need to argue with anyone that is seriously deluded and ignorant enough to claim that Mayweather is the best fighter EVER???

Not the best fighter of this era, but EVER???

There's simply too many great fighters in history for him to rank that high. He's an ATG, ranks very high historically at 130, and high H2H from 130-140, but there's too many great fighters throughout history to objectively having him #1 ever.

Floyd, and Manny for that matter, are often matched up H2H against great welterweights.

They are all-time greats for what they've done throughout their careers, but I wouldn't put them that high at WW.

147 is actually where I think the number of fighters who beat Mayweather increases a lot. As stated above, from 130-140, I'd put him pretty damn high H2H. But no so much at welterweight.

That list also reminds me of how forgotten it often is about the strength of the welterweight division after the "glamour" era of the late 70s/early 80s of SRL/Hearns/Duran/Benitez. It was loaded with talent.

Donald Curry went downhill quickly, but he was one fighter who I really do think was a great WW at his peak.

    I'm sensing sarcasm.

    Hopefully anyway.

    They're from different towns.

Toney is from Ann Arbor, where the University of Michigan is.

Ketchel, like Mayweather, is from Grand Rapids.

Ketchel got a statue there by the way, which I think is cool.
