Daily Mail: ITV looking at increasing boxing coverage - approx 20 shows per year

I used to want boxing back on free TV.

Now I just think, that as soon as ITV win the rights to some football or rugby or whatever, they will tell the boxing promoters to **** off.

 

I can smell Al Haymon here. It would make sense for itv to go into this with him.

 

Decent this. Watching the likes of Calzaghe, williams/Skelton/Sprott, even Khan coming through on ITV in the 00's coincided with me improving loads in the gym and I started liking the sport more than footy. Then Itv stop doing it, Setanta goes bust and youngsters like me who had no Sky simply can't watch the sport. I lost touch with it for years and only got back into it about 4 years ago. What I'm saying is for the sport to grow in a good way getting people into it, it needs to be on free tele. Simple.
Since Joshua v Whyte there's been a big shortage of domestic shows on Sky/box nation. It's about to pick up in March/April but this can only be good to rival Matchroom.

 

This apparently will be a time buy/ad share arrangement for ITV.

As for Channel 5 I suspect the other new promoter is Dennis Hobson.

 

That would get his garbage(for the most part) off American airwaves and into someone else's backyard.
When it comes to Haymon-be careful what you wish for.

 

Nowhere near the good news most would want to believe then.

There's simply not the interest for it to threaten Sky.

I would love ITV to show some of the classic fights unknown to the casuals

bbc and itv used to show virtually every british title fight /european /commonwealth /big name prospect uk fighters before the advent of sky.

huge numbers 17 million for a big world title fight
reg gutteridge and jim watt were good
jim rosenthal was cringworthy.

but they only showed non uk fighters on saturday afternoons and then on a weeks delay and missed huge ammounts of big fights.

they got ****ed off when all the fighters they showcased left for sky/eurosport

 

Where's ProPunter? Here is a thread about TV channels and promoters and no Punter in sight. I hope he is ok...

 

I think 20 events may be stretching it- 10 a year plus Hennessy's events (4-6 a year) and Hobson's events (4 more) would mean around a couple of shows a month on terrestrial TV.
