You should have this already but here is what Greb said about Smith.

"That fellow Jeff Smith cut me to ribbons. To this day I suppose he doesn’t realize how near he came to flattening me in the eighth round. I started a long right containing a load of TNT. Smith ducked the blow and let fly a right-cross. His punch landed directly under my left eye. It cut a deep gash. The force of the blow staggered me for fully 10 seconds. I didn’t know where I was.

In the seven preceding sessions Smith had outpointed me. He made me miss often. His crouching position raised havoc with my style. I just couldn’t fathom his stuff. Time and again I thought I saw a chance for a knockout punch, but try as I might I couldn’t hit the mark, and he kept pecking a straight left in my face.
The fans couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw Smith hammer me all over the place in that never-to-be-forgotten eight. He caught me off guard and, boy, oh boy, how he whaled away, raining an assortment of punches on my face and body. I got myself together beginning the ninth, and beat him so badly that the newspaper men at the ringside agreed on a draw decision. But I was a terrible looking mess after the battle. George Engel, who handled me, turned white as snow when he saw Smith pummel me in the eighth. When I came back to the corner he asked me how I felt, and he was lumstruck when I informed him that I was going out in the next to slaughter Smith. George said: ‘Better take it easy, Harry. Looks like he’s got your number.’ But to Engel’s surprise I chased Smith all over the ring and paid him back in full.

Smith and I had five arguments. He has always been a troublesome customer. He gave me a hard battle at New Orleans, but the Cincinnati affair goes down in the book as the roughest voyage I ever experienced inside the ropes. After the fight I went back to my hotel room and called in a doctor. All of the next day hot applications were placed on the injured optic, and I thought I would lose my eyesight. Engel was worried about a scheduled bout with Tom Gibbons in New York, then only three weeks away, but I told him I’d be ready. I suffered considerable pain for four more days, but I managed to climb in against Gibbons and beat him in 15 rounds. Gibbons gave me plenty of trouble, too, but nobody ever punished me like Smith."

Who's Les Darcy everyone is arguing about?

I've had a quick look on boxrec and j see he was never champion and never fought Gibbons, Dillon or Greb.

Seems like a run of the mill contender to me, like a Sam Soliman or a Danny Geale maybe?

Fleischer was colour blind when evaluating fighters ,he was a close personal friend of Jack Johnson , and an early champion of Harry Wills.

Well ignorance is not an asset my friend, in fact he was the world champion, in fact I recently had an article published in a widely read boxing magazine about this.... I can also prove that the so called American world champion they claim today was in fact NOT the champ and Darcy had the better claim.... I am sure that you can be excused because of total lack of knowledge which you admit to but you better get facts straight before you ever criticize such a high ranking legend of the sport.

Considering I have all of the fight reports for that fight and all say Greb won except for one which had it a draw I think Im on safe footing saying Greb never lost to Smith. Darcy quit against him, thats a fact. I have no doubt Greb thought Smith gave him a tough fight. Smith was a good fighter, which is why Darcy's people chose to fight him in a courtroom and rob him both there and in the ring rather than actually try to beat him. Now, we can continue or you can just admit that you got your little aussie flag panties in a twist for no reason.

The only facts I've said is he was never world champion and never faced Greb, Dillon nor Gibbons, do you dispute either of those facts?

I then compared him to Geale or Soliman, a high ranked Australian MW who was never number 1.

Darcy didn't quit so now I have to go and find the report showing his trainer quit, not Darcy.

Symantics. Darcy got hit with a bodyshot and the fight was stopped in the corner. Anywhere else in the world thats a TKO loss. Not stadiums unlimited though.

You don't seem to realise that comparing Darcy to geale or Soliman a massive insult... Darcy would have knocked them both out within three rounds on the same night with a one minute break between rounds.

Who did he beat to become world champion?

I might just know more about him than you seeing as you think he was a word champion. Do you also class Danny Geale and Sam Soliman as world champions?

Who did he ever defeat twice in one night who can compare to Geale and Soliman?

Who did he win the title from? Just because stadiums unlimited conjured up some fake MW title doesnt mean Darcy was a champion. Jeff Smith was never a champion. Neither was McGoorty who he supposedly won it from who himself won it in a fight against the legendary Pat Bradley.
