Spence if he's the real deal must beat gatekeeper Algieri

I know technically he picked up a strap at 140 pounds. But has yet to make any successful title defense or win another belt.

Let's look at Algieri, he picked up a decent win against Journeyman/Club fighter Emmanuel Taylor. So he's no bum.

He was getting destroyed by Provo so he decided that boxing wouldn't win him the fight so he decided to run around in circles and outpoint the shorter man.

He tried the same strategy against Pacquiao. Which he thought would work against another short, smaller and this time a semi-shot guy. But it didn't work because as soon as he got cornered in the ropes he folded like a tent.

And against Khan he couldn't even make a dent in the glassiest jaw in the business. Meanwhile he just kept getting beaten to the punch. He hasn't fought any top Welters like Thurman, Porter or Brook because the result is already known.

If Spence wants to be taken seriously he has to beat Algieri. If he doesn't then he's a miss and it's on to the next prospect.

Getting destroyed? That's somewhat of an overstatement, he got popped in the eye went down and then took a knee to clear the cobwebs, and proceeded to box Ruslan's ears off for the next 11 rounds.

Huge step up for Spence. This should be the fight where he'll prove to be the real deal or not. Algeri gave Khan problems and beat Provo by a hair. Beating Algeri in any way would put Spence under the radar.

Look like he will duck the final eliminator and The Special One and more importantly drug testing in the UK. :-(

Which is why he has to beat Algieri. He's not a bum, but if you can't beat Algieri then you're not going to be a player in the division.

The only guy to decisively beat Chris is Manny Pacquiao one of the top 2 guys in the division, that's hardly an indictment against Algieri, he was totally unprepared with a ****ty trainer and not even remotely ready for a step up like that in his career.

You're underrating the hell out of Chris, having a close fight with him isn't anything to be ashamed of.

How do we know that Pacquiao in his mid 30's was a top 2 Welter? He hadn't fought Thurman, Porter or Brook. At some point the Cotto performance becomes the past.

Let's see how he looks against gatekeeper Algieri before we think about the best fighter in the divison.

Even if he beats Algieri, it would really give an indication because he will be able to get away with the sauce in USA, which he won't in the UK.

Algieri isn't that good, and even if he was, his Gold's Gym-bro corner would never let him out of the cage.

Algieri's corner and camp is annoying af. They honestly just look like a couple of bench press bro's trying out boxing.
