I know Kovalev destroyed Boone in rematch and knocked out Cleverly. May I ask again. has anyone saw the fight?
Kovalev had food poisoning a day before the first fight, fought a bad fight and got a tad lucky to get the decision. Destroyed him in the rematch so no big deal. a Mate of mine who went to watch it thought the Russian won the first fight by a point but it was razor close.
No, tried and tried, but can't find it. In fact I believe it was KD7 not 4. The only person I've heard saying that Boone shoulda got the nod is Bellew, in an attempt to discredit Kovalev as an opponent for Clev, and I've no idea why he thinks that - possibly just made it up. Either way the fight was in Atlanta, Boone's home town, and at that time (2010) Boone was a far, far better known fighter than the unknown Kovalev in his 10th fight. Just for reference according to boxrec it's the only fight Boone's lost in his home town. It seems much more likely to me that Kovalev musta been fairly handily outbooxng Boone early rounds to take the close split decision if you take into account the KD. The only other things I've heard about the fight are that Kovalev was kinda worried about the big step up, and not well prepared mentally on fight day. Might have been some other issues as well like the fight time changing and not having proper time to prepare, I think. He also criticises his own performance saying (to paraphrase), that he should have pressured Boone more when he was winning in the early rounds, but gave him too much time to recover (a facet of his game that seems to have improved). Kovalev also says that he hung on after the KD7 -'By sheer will'. Read an article bout it some time ago. I'll try to dig it out.
Wrong fighter, fairly sure that was ggg. The Boone kd I heard it told has nothing but an off balance shot like the pascal slip and the other called kd that was 100% a balance shot
Yeah, yeah, GGG blah. Some of you folk are relentless. As best I've been able to reconstruct it the fight went as I've outlined in my 2013 post, with the addendum that from Kovalevs own account he basically gassed badly in the latter part of the fight. Worth bearing in mind that not only was it was his first 8 rounder but none of his previous fights had lasted past 2, also he was still a relative novice in the pros and Deezol represented at the time a significant leap in quality. And no, sadly, to my knowledge no footage or stills of the fight have yet materialised.
Even if it´s the case - so what? Kovalev destroyed him in the rematch and since then he has beated Pascal, Hopkins, Campillo and Cleverly.
Excuses excuses. Marco Antonio Periban softened Boone up for Kovalev. Periban totally destroyed Boone.
