Unproven is a hard thing to say.

For example which MW would you say is more proven at a top level: Golovkin or Darcy?

The rest of your post I agree fully with. A certain poster just takes umbrage that I see Darcy as a very good prospect who never became champion because if his untimely death.

Dave Sands in chronically underrated and underappreciated in Australia Burt.

It's Darcy this and that but Sands' story was just as tragic and the what ifs surrounding him are just as big. We do know he could match it with anyone at 160 beating the likes of Olsen, Brimm, Villemain, Alabama Kid and **** Turpin but we also know he had flaws with him being outpointed by the clever and equally underrated Tommy Yarosz.

Whether he beats Sugar Ray is another question we'll never know the answer to.

One thing for sure Sands sure looks great on film.

And my point is that the 160 pound Langford was as strong, faster, harder hitting and much better that the 175 pound Norfolk that twice gave 160 pound Greb the fights of his life ..

You haven't burst any bubble... sorry....... you say I never refute what you say... I do a LOT but like a child you just ignore that and also ignore many questions I put to you then you try to win an argument by attacking my character and calling me a nut, sorry but that's not how you win a debate, in fact it's not how you debate. Attacking my character or my intelligence. I showed you that McCoy lost TWENTY TWO fights the time he was ummm... "champion" and you IGNORE that and insist he's a champion... well fook me dead, seriously ?? he has a better claim than Dave Smith had ???... Smith was a better fighter than two Al McCoy's............ you REFUSE to concede a single point even when you are wrong so how would you like me saying you sound like a nut for that.... You dare to try ridicule me and talk as if I have no friends and that everyone thinks I know nothing well I have many friends and many who really like my work. I don't any of Chip's fans but they have a point... he beat McCoy many times and lost once. Now don't get offended if I refuse to reply to any of your posts in future... if I read a post of yours that is total **** I may reply by saying.... THAT's a LOAD of ****, but that's all you will get from me. You have so many people out there that can't stand you and do not like you... I am not the only one who thinks you are an arrogant foolish ratbag.... every second person I speak to in boxing circles does... yes now I am attacking your character... because you started this a long long time ago but I am also stating the truth.... now ignore me so I can ignore you, that will give me a lot of pleasure.
............................... P.S. Shove your book up yer date.

I like Richards, from what old timers say he had incredible power so in theory if he lands on any middleweight in any time period he can knock everyone out, he had skills... Sands was no light hitter, he could bang... Darcy had all that too...... All three had tragic ends, they say when Richards was getting old and drunk, scumbags would kick the hell out of him just to be able to boast, "I beat Ron Richards"... Darcy and Sands are forever young.... most people rate Darcy as in a class above, all three were never given a proper chance, Richards simply hadn't the money to go to america. Sands unlike Darcy had just begun fighting the top rank whereas Darcy fought against the top rank many times and beat them all. I know the stories about Sands being avoided by Robinson and that they all say he would have beaten Robinson... I do not agree with either claim as they are like urban myths.... the stuff about Robinson stems from a statement Ray made once when he said something like, "that boy from Australia is a hell of a fighter",..... that does not mean Ray was afraid or even thought Sands would beat him though.

The ending of Ron Richards is probably sadder than the other two combined. A once great fighter who gave Archie Moore plenty of trouble becomes a penniless, homeless alcoholic getting beaten up by scumbags just so they could say they "beat" Ron Richards in a fight. A really tragic end for one the best indigenous fighters we ever had or will have.

I doubt Sugar Ray was scared of Sands either just that I reckon he was realistic about him. He knew that Sands would've been a massive test and he wanted to be handsomely compensated for facing him. You'd have to favour the amazing Sugar Ray but Sands would've been a very, very live underdog.

I enjoy your posts Greg and love your passion about Darcy (he's one of my faves too) but I look at him more as a prodigious but sadly unfulfilled talent, through no fault of his own. I'm genuinely sorry to hear of your illness too mate and hope for the best for you.
