Why was floyd slammed for choosing Maidana over Khan?

I don't get people's complaint more people overall wanted to see Maidana over Khan, Maidana was a World Champ and top 5 WW, was coming of the better recent string of wins. Head to head Khan barley s****ed a decision that in terms of rounds won judges scored a draw 6-6, to drill it home even more when chosen Maidana originally said screw Mayweather and called out Khan for a rematch instead only for Khan to run away.
