I had an inkling Donald Curry would turn out to be a one hit wonder, having just the UD15 in the Starling rematch. It turns out he also had another tilt with his fourth pro opponent, Rigo Lopez, for his thirtieth bout almost seven years later, as his confidence-builder after the McCallum loss. So, 2-0 (1).
RJJ: 1-3 (1) :!: Bernard Hopkins - LUD12 in the rematch. Montell Griffin - WKO1 in the rematch. Antonio Tarver - LTKO2 in the rematch, LUD12 in the rubber match.

Flawless. :smoke One victim in the IBHOF, and the other, while unlikely to ever get in (or even be on the bubble) still a respected 2-division titlist nonetheless. Maske is clearly zee rematch GOAT. Wunderbar!

Just a word of disclaimer/explanation on a couple of things: I'm using the phrase "rubber match" loosely to connote a third meeting between rivals. Typically rubber matches are understood to be "tie breakers" when two competitors are deadlocked at 1-1 (or even if there was a draw in either of the first two meetings, leaving need for "closure" even though one may have the edge at 1-0-1) and that is how the phrase is meant to be used. In colloquial use, however, it applies more broadly to any third chapter, and that's how I have been using it here. Also, in the case of some older records where the result is given as "PTS" but no specifics are given, I have defaulted to considering them 'unanimous decisions' for wont of any reason to suppose otherwise. Some of these may have been referee decisions or judge/referee hybrids, as different formats have been used in different parts of the world at different times.
Joe Louis #1 Wlad always did better in rematches: First fights Carlos Monroe WDQ6 Everett Martin W8 Chris Byrd W12 Lamon Brewster LTKO5 Tony Thompson WKO11 (tough fight, lost few rounds) Rematches Carlos Monroe WTKO6 Everett Martin WTKO8 Chris Byrd WTKO7 Lamon Brewster WTKO6 Tony Thompson WTKO6 (easy) Wlad is the one who makes improvements between the fights, not in the fight if its tough for him
You forgot Sam Peter. :hey WUD12 and WKO10 - and in the rematch Wlad didn't repeatedly hump the canvas with his butt. :yep
Surely you're not suggesting, though, that Monroe, Martin, Byrd, Brewster, Peter & Thompson ought to put him in the company of Louis, Ali, Hagler, Monzón or Greb? :think ...or even Pacquiao, for that matter.
Oh yes :good Then it would look like: Wlad always did better in rematches: First fights Carlos Monroe WDQ6 Everett Martin W8 Chris Byrd W12 Lamon Brewster LTKO5 Sam Peter W12 (got dropped 3 times) Tony Thompson WKO11 (tough fight, lost few rounds) Rematches Carlos Monroe WTKO6 Everett Martin WTKO8 Chris Byrd WTKO7 Lamon Brewster WTKO6 Tony Thompson WTKO6 (easy) Sam Peter WKO10 (dropped 3 times) So Wlad is 5-1 (1 KO) in the 1st matches against these opponents and 6-0 (6 KOs) in rematches
