The word is that both Ward and Dirrel both thought that Showtime should pay them more to fight each other for the Super Six. They felt that the fight was being talked about and everybody looking forward to so they felt their pay scale should be raised for this fight. Two legends battling it out worth the weight in gold? But I saw it coming. I said these 2 dudes wont fight each otherl Showtime had a budget to work with and cant over spend. But the purses and contracts had already be done in advance. Fighters knew what they were getting but Ward and Dirrell go inflated ego's and greedy. Goes to show you the character in some people. So they were lagging then Showtime threatened to sue and Ward said screw it lets just fight. Whilst a few days after Ward said that Andre Dirrell suffered headaches and sleepless nights. He wants out of the tournament and he gets it via Dr. Shaw High! The rest is history.
Thanks for the info. I've heard about this before, but I never knew the specifics. It's a real shame. I'm going to try and find out some more info. Andre Dirrell was my tip to win the tournament. Great skills, but he's obviously mentally weak. I really can't see him doing much at this point.
Serge, I'm getting this feeling that you don't like Andre. I can sense it. How's things mate? I'm half way through The Jinx now. I'm loving it. I can't wait to watch the rest of it. I'll let you know when I've watched it all. Are you still watching Breaking Bad? Back on topic. 1. I think Andre should have fought Chad at either a CW or 175. 2. Chad's team must have thought SMW was possible, otherwise they'd never have accepted the fight. 3. It's clear that Andre didn't want to fight Bute early in 2012, but I still don't think he feared him, and none of us know what would have happened for certain, had Carl not destroyed him. 4. It certainly appears that Andre ducked Adonis Stevenson. 5. I don't see how anyone can criticise Andre for wanting 2 fights before fighting Kovalev, seeing as though he's hardly fought in the last 4 years. :good
That was pretty much how it went. I remember a poster who used to post here seemed like he knew more than he was letting on about the situation said from day one the fight would never happen. He wasn't a troll, but got attacked like one by people really wanting the fight to come off.
In one of those Fight Camp 360 episodes Dirrells cousin/corner dude said that if they want this fight they need to get that money right. Then he says that Dirrell is a prize fight not a pride fighter. Wtf? The purses for the Super Six were already set. These statements he made on TV helped prove my theory. During all this the Andre Ward camp was mysteriously silent. I found that odd. Almost as if they knew what was coming and just waited. They didn't even have a venue picked for Ward vs Dirrell that's how bad it was.

^^^There it is. I think everything has been put in the open and can make up their own minds. The Super Six tournament to find out who the best fighter at 168 was laughable. J. Taylor a middleweight whom had been brutally Ko'd many times. Allan Green?? lol
Ward avoided Bute pretty badly. People using a Ward-Froch-Bute triangle theory have no clue. Bute's glass chin would not be threatened by Wards pillow punches. HBO was willing to pay Ward good money to fight Bute, but Ward said bute "needed to fight somebody and prove himself" which is clearly a duck. He turned down the money and exposure because he had serious concern about fighting another southpaw - especially one who had size, quick hands, and a wicked uppercut.
One reason many people said Ward would lose the tourney was because they all thought he would be KO'd by Kessler thus putting Ward down 3 points in the tourney. But I don't recall many people debating that Ward would have had trouble with guys like Abe and Froch. Its been shown and was known that Abe and Froch were not hard to beat.
I'm not saying he was. That was just a huge mistake letting Froch beat him. Maybe Ward thought Bute would beat Froch? But Ward let that chance to get some glory and money by exposing him get away. Look at how Froch was blown up after he beat Bute. I guess the 9 month vacation was more important. Fighters with less than 30 pro fights asking for breaks, vacations and tuneps? LOL
