If Pac-JMM 1 was stopped in the 1st round...

    How does Marquez's career play out? I'd say chances would have been strong that we never saw any subsequent Pac-JMM bouts, let alone 3 more.

    Is there any way he'd have still been able to reach the same heights he has since then?

    We'd actually see the Mexican round robin of Morales, Barrera and Marquez all fighting each other.

    Marquez would stay at SFW for a little longer and we'll see Marquez-Valero, Marquez-Soto and Marquez-Lineras, all winnable fights for Marquez. LW would be his last weight class and then we'll see how he thoroughly dominate it.

    The only reason Marquez moved up the weight classes was to chase Pacquaio. I feel a rematch would of been likely, but not until later in Marquez's career. The rematch would pan out very differently from their other 4 fights. It'd be a thing to behold.

    Probably not Rums...Also had the judge scored the fight correctly 10-6 Pac, he would have won by 1 point...2 fights later pac still wins and there's no need for a 4th fight. Pac might have never suffered that ko in the 4th fight, had the judge correctly scored the fight 10-6, rather than 10-7...

    That was the first fight I saw with Pacman and I was an instant fan! They could of stopped it in the first without problems but I think that Pacman wasn't "supposed" to win so they gave Marquez every chance they could to let him back in the fight.

    I don't think that's it at all. Pac was the one coming off the high profile victory against a P4P talent with cable network backing. JMM was still living in the shadows in relative obscurity.

    This is why I believe no rematch ever happens between the 2 if the fight is stopped in 1, which it very easily could have been.

    That changes recent boxing history tremendously. Amazing to think how someone's split second decision can have an impact on such a succession of future events.

    I'm really not so sure. Morales was the name I'd immediately considered myself, perhaps inspired by IB's JMM-Morales thread, but I'm not sure if those fights would have materialized any time soon after.

    Marquez was largely stuck on the outside looking in, and had already suffered some career setbacks. Had Pac blown him away, I think he falls back into obscurity with a more difficult route back.

    Many feel that guys like MAB, Morales, and Hamed, had already been steering around JMM prior to that. I don't necessarily think that, but his name value was certainly of little worth to that trio back then, so if any teams had the slightest doubts about the risk of that one, it would have been extremely easy to continue avoiding.

    I'm not sure what path JMM takes to get back into that position, and if he managed it somehow, I think it would take several years honestly.

    Of course I'm speculating on all of this. But I think that Marquez could have wound up being just another good but unknown titlist in the annals of boxing history.

    Yeah, I know on that one judge. I scored that 113-112 myself. (And had the following fights 114-113 for JMM, and 114-114 draw prior to KTFO6).

    But if the fight gets called after 1, Marquez never gets to put on the brave display where he exhibited tremendous heart and top grade skills, not to mention versatility and adaptability.

    So even if Pac won had that judge got it right, it still would warrant a rematch.

    Had Pac won TKO1, no need for a rematch - most likely ever.

    There was no demand for Lewis-Golota II. And more to this point, I don't remember anyone calling for Pac-Hatton II.

    I think it becomes the dagger in the heart had the ref's decision been different in that split moment.

    Absolutely...I agree... I guess it was a hell of a mistake by the Judge's incompetence in the first fight, because the pac/jmm rivalry produced some of the best fights i've ever seen.... But thank God there was no 5th fight though!:deal

    don't forget, jmm was then a top prospect with tr and pac was with murad muhammad (who sold him out on having reyes gloves) and shaw and/or di bella promotions (who didn't even put up a bid to keep him).

    that fight was not meant for pac but a career change for the great marquez. marquez went on to chase pac beyond his supposed weight limit even at an older age.

    no1 stops marquez. the guy cant be knocked out. even with peds pac couldnt do it

    Knowing Pacquiao, he would give him a rematch. All depends on how well Marquez comes back from the loss.

    Pac you lighted him up in that round still to this day dont know how Marquez made it out of the round he is tough as hell

    At the end of the round Pac was staring at him thinking dam this guy is tough

    Marquez claim to fame is being Pac's kryptonite same way Maidana was floyds and he only fought him 2 times
