Igor (one of my favorite fighters ever) was incredibly short for a heavyweight which is why he was hard to be taken down. He was a short stocky 100+kg guy with low center of gravity and often fought much taller opponents. I just checked on Wiki he was only 1.76 m (5 ft 9 in). It's also harder to put a guy with no neck and short arms into certain submissions. Also, Igor had some background in Sambo so he wasn't exactly a beginner in grappling. For this reason I'm pretty sure a boxer with Mike Tyson's physique would transition well into MMA, even with only basic grappling training he would be hard to submit.
OMG a boxer landed one punch and that now validates that all top boxers would dominate MMA. your talking about a Lazy, out of shape, past his prime Tim Sylvia who was off PED and has a ****ty chin. dude got drop by a 40 year old randy couture for crying out loud and dropped in 30 seconds by fedor in the fight before. he was coming off a year layoff and was fighting at SHW because he was too lazy and to past it to make 265 any more.
P4P best ever at what? nobody but casuals thought that about rousey. Holm had been cross training since the age of 15. she is a martial artist who happened to chose boxing as her path.
MMA fans still trying to do damage control to spin the fact that the top rated grappler got dominated by a world championship boxer never stops being funny. Ronda was in fact ranked as the top woman MMA fighter lb4lb, hell she was ranked over most men on UFC.com's lb4lb list AT #4! According to Rousey vs Holm pre fight discussions all you MMA fanboys had Ronda submitting Holly early inside the first round because Holly has "no experience with ground game or fighting any grapplers at all". Its amazing that in the MMA community Holly Holm magically went from a limited no hope boxer to a well rounded cross trainer after only one fight LOL. MMA isnt really an established art. Thats why woefully limited practioners like Brock Lesnar, Weidman and Rousey could be champions in MMA with very little MMA training. Holm just proved that a quick counter puncher who's in their physical prime could outclass these so called "real fighting artists" as long as the boxer takes the sport seriously.
Wonderful. Glad to see it became established as an art in modern Games and so many nations/countries have embraced it...oh wait
all this boxing vs. mixed martial arts lark really is divvy. for a start they are two completely different things. and i am into both. boxing is my main love, but i do like mma aswell, yeah it is boring when they are on the ground too long blah blah blah, we all know that. but you can get seriously hurt in both. it may look boring on the ground but when your put in a hurtful armbar that will potentially do you some serious damage and even break your arm? certainly not a position a coward would put himself in. same as elbows and knees, how someone thats not taking elbows and knees can call someone a coward or a ***got who is taking elbows and knees, on the grounds that sometimes fights stay a little too much on the ground (which as i've stated i myself find boring) is ridicolous. even foot stomps hurt when done accurately and properly. boxing is the superior sport, but fighters are fighters and they all deserve respect
I agree but you have to realize that UFC-style MMA is **** and it's not even close to real fighting. Even the name MMA is stupid and shouldn't exist. It should be called Vale Tudo which is the real NHB tradition. There are so many myths that UFC tries to sell the public I don't even know where to begin with. UFC isn't the start of "MMA", it started in Brazil and it was also popular in Japan (Pancrase and other orgs) before the UFC 1. Pride was the real "MMA", the real fighting with the most badass fighters and it's still the golden age of the so-called "MMA". Better rules, better production, better personalities. UFC is some sort of hybrid between Vale Tudo and boxing-style rules with round per round scoring, point fighting, strict weight classes, ducking, padded records and the octagon cage is just plain bull**** that helps point fighting wrestlers. UFC copied a lot of negative aspects of boxing. I respect real Vale Tudo and Pride fighters of the 90s and early 00s but I have little respect for UFC bums like Conor, Jon Jones, Ronda and other hype jobs.
