In sports where a lot of money and attention are focussed, I'd prefer for amateurs to get their time in the sun. Plus pro and am boxing are far more different than other sports.
They shouldn't be. Amatuers should strive to fight like the Pros and Pro system, just like other sports.
The difference is, that b'ballers and Tennis players can play every week, and make large sums on money. Basketballers have huge contracts where they paid week to week. Tennis players can play in a tournament every other week and make good money. Boxers cannot fight every week or every other week. My point is tennis players can come in and play in the Olympics and be right back to playing for 6 figure pay days the next week. B'ballers are getting paid by their team while they go to the Olympics. Boxers don't get paid for the Olympics, so that could be 2 months of training and preparation for nothing, when they could have been fighting for a big money fight. Boxing has a different dynamic to most sports
first of all everyone needs to stop mis interpreting these reports, only apb professionals are aloud in the olympics. you wont see any traditional pros there most reports like this are wrote by mis informed journalists who dont have a clue
I mean, the situation is understandably confusing to laymen, but yeah, this becomes like a big game of telephone.
i know but it highlights just how poor boxing journalism is as a whole when you have idiot reporters who cant even do proper research before writing an article or the idiots who go up and ask khan or pacman will they be fighting in the olympics in interviews when they should know full well its nonsense
Well APB and WSB guys have always been eligible for the Olympics, this new report seems to indicate that Wu wants traditional pros to be able to compete. That's what hes trying to change. APB and WSB guys competing wouldn't require any new initiatives by the IABA like is being implied.
Great fight, tha last man who officially beat Floyd will have his second chance :smoke Todorov wins again, then goes to pro again for his long-awaited millions of $$$. :deal
You are making or creating difficulties. There shouldn't be two distinct boxing philosophies when the amateurs will eventually become pros anyways. The amateur boxing philosophy produces amateurs not able to adapt to the real Pro system, and that's unfortunate. It's fundamentally stupid. As for making money, that's besides the point and if you want to make it about that, being an Olympian is the bread and butter of most Olympians. Having that title is their sole source of income from the endorsements and fees.
Hmm, you're making more of a stink about how they are getting paid? Who cares, who gives a crup? They are pros, they will make the decisions based on their criteria. I'm not nor are you anyones mom. No one forced Kobe to take his whole summer off to prepare for the Olympics, but he did it for national pride, cache? Who knows but he did it. Boxing pros will do what is in their best interest as well.
