They all push his shit in. Valero was ridiculously overrated even when he was alive, but it went over the moon when his young death attained him that "rock star mystique" (except unlike with, say, Chava Sánchez, there is no reason to believe he would've gone on to do anything great. We saw plenty of Valero to know he was a distant runner-up in that weight range in his era. Getting off the canvas to stop Mosquera and peppering DeMarco to a ninth round stool retirement put together a complete picture: good fighter, not great, and his power wasn't really carrying up as he climbed in weight)
Yeah. If you ever read the letters sent to Dougie's mailbag on the ring website, whenever he's asked about Valero v some Hall of Fameer, a great or an all time great prime for prime in a mythical match he nearly always says Valero these days. But back when he was alive I remember him picking the likes of Pacquiao, Marquez, Bradley and Khan to beat him handily (at 140 or 135), while guys like Rios, Vazquez and Urbando Antillion give him a tough fight. Because he died he now destroys them all atschatsch
Yeah, absolutely - but the Ghost did have moments of questionable heart in those days, as he seemed a bit rattled early versus Yordan and was probably lucky to get cut and escape with the NC..
He's an explosive fighter and would definitely give us insane fights against all of the fighters mentioned. However, he loses to all of them in my personal view.
I reckon he was the kind of fighter to carry that power through to the elite level. JMM? Morales? Manny? Jesus, they loved a tear-up. You NEVER went for a tear-up with Valero. Guerreo? He's nothing. Valero would have wrecked him. Never rated RG. Diaz? Now that is a s****!
He didn't carry his power up to LW, though, we know that. DeMarco got hit with everything but the kitchen sink as Valero had a huge edge in speed and punching accuracy, but stayed upright for nine rounds before quitting.
