Marciano defeated a great fighter, Jersey Joe Walcott, to earn his title. Walcott was not shot. A shot fighter does not have his best round in the latter part of a 15th round affair. Rocky defeated a shot, Joe Louis. However, Ezzard Charles, who was probably the greatest LH to ever live, and one of the best HW's to ever do it, was defeated twice by Marciano. Because of the time he lived in, Rocky's supporter's were Caucasian, and his detractors were Black. He was not the greatest of all times, but he was GREAT. I wouldn't say anyone could beat Rocky, until I see it. Unbeatable? That's a laughable claim for any man. Nevertheless, I stand by my statement. He was great.
Joey Archer has a win over one of the greatest of all time, does anyone in the last 20? Makes no sense. Marciano beat JJW, Moore, Louis when they were close to 40. Calm down.
Oh dear. Joey Archer's win over SRR is better than any of Pacquiao/Roy Jones/Toney's wins too. Floyd's resume is far far far better than Rocky's, it's not close. Not even a little bit. I'm judging on resume. And Floyd leads that by a country mile.
Let's be honest though. Joe Calzaghe would also beat Joe Louis prime for prime. He went life and death with journeyman Tony Galetto and Marciano proved Louis couldn't handle Italian-style pressure fighters. Calzaghe was taller than Marciano and only weighed slightly less, but for a Heavyweight fight he would've weighed about the same. Before Calzaghe's hands was shot he was a knockout artist similar to The Rock. Calzaghe would end matters in style against Louis around the 7th :thumbsup
Oh dear exactly. Comparing Rocky's win over Louis, to Archer's over Ray's? atsch Why does Archer have a better win than Roy, Toney or Pac? What's the point even discussing it with you, you have no perspective. Floyd fought better fighters and was much more gifted than Rocky was, but Rocky's run was much harder. A HW with a 68" reach? Yet you haven't given that a seconds thought because you're blinded by your love for Floyd. Floyd never overcame a 30 pound weight disadvantage as well as a 8" reach disadvantage.
True, but he hardly went 49-0 against opposition of the 80's or 90's standard, did he? Lennox has a better resume than Marciano.
And now you are or you are verging on 37 years of age (not to rub it in! :good) and he is still undefeated. And he could go through the current crop. Porter, Brook - They have no chance, and they are the new breed! Remarkable what he's done, it truly is.
Ward's biggest victories are over a ruined Kessler and a never was Froch. Remember Calzaghe didn't have to headbutt his way to victory.
