Roldan gave Nunn some actual action too, apparently because Nunn was was trying to prove how tough he was.
Um...wrong guy. Interesting comments by Nunn though. I agree with the poster who said Nunn is one of the most naturally talented fighters ever. Awesome talent who got derailed.
Toney closed the distance and was looking good against Nunn past the 7th round or so, but Nunn made the inexperienced Toney look amateurish in the early going. Even with Toney in the ascendancy, I was pretty shocked when he finished Nunn in dramatic fashion.
From the get go Toney was landing bodyshots, reminds me of Taylor-Chavez, Chavez was landing good stuff early. I guess people don't score bodyshots?
The point is, is that Nunn was winning the early rounds handily. You don't agree he was comfortably ahead after the first 6 or 7 rounds?
I thought the same on first viewing but changed my mind on further viewings. Nunn throws more but is missing more, given up range to fight inside, probably landing more but Toney is landing the more damaging blows. What Nunn does land are mostly arm punches. Nunn was probably ahead at that stage but it was competitive with some rounds going the other way. With my scoring criteria I emphasise whether a punch lands to the head or body and who's landing the better quality
No. Toney had been coming on for the last 3-4 rds. Nunn was still ahead going into the 11th, but Toney had definitely started to get to him.
Yeah, I think Curry gave a decent showing. Much better than the one against Norris. As you say, Nunn was just too big and strong.
He said he was the smartest. Toney did set a trap for him and caught him with a haymaker seemingly out of left field. I have to say though that it is kind of hard to believe Carl Jones had the fastest hands and feat of ALL Nunn's opponents. I think he was accurate about Toney, based on the questions asked, except, arguably, best all around opponent. Starling and Toney were both great defensively but its no crime picking Starling over him Despite the shocking one punch ko, Toney was probably not the hardest puncher Nunn faced. Toney wasn't the fastest guy around, either. Toney wasn't fully polished when he fought Nunn - he got better. Still, Toney probably was better all round when he fought Nunn than Curry was. Curry was well on his way down.
I've had conversations with a friend who sparred numerous times with Nunn, McCallum and Julian Jackson. He stated McCallum and Jackson had NOTHING on Nunn. He was hands down superior in every way.
