You are wrong there, Kearns spent a lot of time in Australia. Yep there are guys he missed out on as he didnt live till he was 130. He means up until he last said it... as far as I remember late 40's

Kearns managed a troupe of fighters he took to Australia and I think he visited twice but at least once, he was Billy Murray's manager for one and Darcy really beat up on Murray, after the second fight Darcy and Murray became good buddies.

Don't wanna extend the discussion but, like I said, they were recognized by the NBA, the NYSAC and the IBU.

In 1938 (after the NYSAC stripped Steele of their title for not facing Apostoli for a championship bout) during the World Boxing Congress a mixed comission was formed with representatives of the three sanctioning bodies with the purpose of deciding champions.

Like I said is not a solid claim nor it lasted for long since three months later Steele lost to Hostak, but for like three months, Steele was the closest thing to a lineal champion the 30s had.

Apparently nearly every opponent liked Darcy after the bouts, he was a very friendly fellow and good disposition, never heard a bad word about him even from jeff Smith whose anger was directed at Stadiums Ltd.

A lot of old timers suffered major loss in popularity in every division.

Johnny Dundee and Willie Ritchie had two votes in the survey of their respective weight classes. Bat Nelson and Johnny Kilbane had none.

And that's anywhere inside the top 10. They were all lock on ATGs in the past.

Middleweight is the deepest division in boxing. Not having Darcy in the top 10 or even 20 is nothing scandalous.

Slip in another name in there and you have a reasonably credible top 10.

Only one person can be number 1 at any time and it was Thil for a while then Steele, but the two never fought. That's why there was no lineal champion.

When Apostoli beat Thil, him and Steel fought over the limit so again no champion could be crowned.

It was until Zale that we had a true MW champion.

People can have disputed claims all they want but the most reasonable claim is the top two face each other for a vacant crown and that didn't happen for a long time at MW during this era (and others as well to be honest)

I'm pretty sure you haven't read 5hit of what I've written so fine whatever. It was a technicality anyway.

Be pretty sure about whatever you want.

Doesn't matter how close someone is to being a lineal champion or not, life goes on without lineage, especially within a fractured division.

His claim wasn't solid because he never beat the number 2 whilst number 1 or vice versa.
