I'd like to know about boxers who ducked their mandatories for whatever reason.

Examples of boxers ducking their mandatories
*Rid**** Bowe ducked Lennox Lewis 1992 (WBC Title) vacated belt
*George Foreman ducked Tony Tucker 1995 (WBA) stripped of belt
*Mike Tyson ducked Lennox Lewis 1996 (WBC Title) firstly paid $4 million dollars, then later vacated belt.

    Sturm ducked Golovkin
    Geale ducked Golovkin
Cotto wanted nothing to do with Golovkin and obviously would've continued to avoid him had he not lost to Canelo

    Mthalane's IBF trouble/stripping/vacating was legit.

He was going to make just 6,500 US dollars. However, neither his team nor his flight or stay was being covered by anyone. This... the second consecutive time with Mthalane slated to go to an opponents backyard and a late cancellation. The IBF stripped him. It totally sucks as Mthalane is all around solid and would have been nice to see him had he somehow managed to not be in the South African boxing mess.

I love watching Mthalane but it was a duck. Yeah it was a ****ty purse but he waited until about 2 weeks before the fight before pulling out, had been frustratingly inactive and seemed to give his title away far too easily.

As you said, it'd have been great to see him not be in the South African mess (ditto with Tete who now looks to have escaped) but it was a duck. Strangely I think he'd have beaten Amnat, and if he did he may have been rewarded with the Ioka or Shiming paydays that Amnat has since had.

Literally $6,500, not $65,000 but $6,500, to fly to Thailand and fight paying for you and your teams' flights and hotels out of that $6,500.

Can't call that a "duck" at all, BP.

    ...good post though.

If you're team isn't willing to back you with dough and you can't get sponsored then that's your problem, not that of your challenger. Ancajas is getting $3,500 to face Arroyo (albeit at home) but isn't backing out of that as it's an opportunity.

Sometimes a short gain loss is a long term win, and that title was, in many ways, his only bargaining chip as his team had no money, South African boxing is in a mess with TV, he had been inactive too. Since facing Nunez in September 2012 (his last defense of the title) he has fought thrice (actually since Sarritzu in October 2011 he has fought just 4 times) that's a guy who should have taken any fight back in 2013/2014 just to keep that title.
