I want to respond to some of the criticism's of my video on Jack Johnson, "Why Jack Johnson Is Not As Great As You were Told". This will be my only response. The video is self explanatory if you know what your watching. Choynski and Johnson did not weigh in for their fight so the weight you give for Joe is arbitrary, Pollack estimates they were near the same weight. Choynski was named as the hardest hitter they fought by: Corbett Fitzsimmons Sharkey Jeffries Johnson How would Tyson weather Choynski's punches if Mike only weighed in as a super middleweight? Johnson went over 14 years before being stopped again and it took a giant 26 rds in tropical heat to do it.Johnson was then past prime, fat and 37 years old. Sorry , I find your points unconvincing.
The video had to be named "Why Jack Johnson's skills are Not As Great As You were Told", based on its contents. How about doing the same piece about Ray Robinson, so as to prove one's objectivity and consistence? Or Ezzard Charles, who is mentioned in the above write-up, but who displays a lot of flaws on film (when one is not picking just the fights he looked good at, but all that are available)?
Hey Monte! Just want to say that I really appreciate the work you've done for boxing history. Your articles and your content have helped many beginners in boxing history, myself included, get a better picture of the legends of the past. No boxing writer, commentator, ****yst, etc will always have agreeable opinions. It's the nature of the sport. And even though I totally disagree with your piece on Johnson, I still have tremendous respect for your work.
The clips you show of Johnsons opponents direct line of attack has a very simple explanation. Johnson is not moving side to side. He's either standing still, or moving directly backwards. You can't cut the ring off side to side against a guy moving backwards. James Corbett used lots of side to side movement, and Bob Fitzsimmons can clearly be seen cutting off the ring (shoutout to Klompton). Johnson faced Fitzsimmons.
Well as the senior poster here at ESB, i guess i should weight in on this so called video. First of all, let me say i have never felt so sick to my stomach while watching such utter garbage than i did just now while viewing this filth. It reminded me of this steaming hot du-mp i took after i ate meatloaf and hot wings on super-bowl sunday:smoke nah i am just kidding, i haven't watched it yet, i will check it out now, i just wanted to spice this thread up a lil first :thumbsup
Theres no point in watching it if you dont know what your watching. After all, it takes a mystical boxing guru to p**** out the relative skill and ability of men who punch each other in the face for a living.
