Roy Jones Jr. vs Old Foreman

He is talking about old forman 90s .even at 50 i pick foremam to destroy jones with the first punch that he lands. And i dont buy the **** of jones avoiding every single shot from george for 12 complete rounds

 

I think it's fair to say Jones speed advantage gives him a really good chance, regardless of who you think wins

 

The thread is about if Jones defended against a comebacking Foreman. We don’t exactly know what shape George was in at that time, but his body was deteriorating pretty fast during the last years of his active career. This is six years later, I repeat: he was 54 years old.

I doubt he would have been able to land much at all on Jones, it’s more likely that he would injure himself throwing punches. And even if he did land the odd punch, would he really be able to punch with the same force as he did when he was young? There is no way Jones would have been able take the 23 year old Foreman’s punches, and he wouldn't want to take to many from the 45 year old version either. But a 54 year old Foreman? Come on.

 

So foreman at 54 loses his power magically. You talk like if a man at 54 was an ancient.

 

54 is pretty ancient for an athlete. There is nothing magical about it, power diminishes with age, as does strength. Not as quickly as speed and reflexes, but it still goes. Foreman did not punch with the same force in 97 as he did in 91.

But of course he would still be very strong and powerful compared to average people. But we are not matching him up with an average guy on the street. Roy was an elite fighter in top condition who had just beaten a heavyweight titleholder. I don’t rate Jones at heavyweight, he was to small and his chin was to week but he was at least an active fighter and a young man. Picking him to beat Foreman is not great praise, I would pick everyone in the 2003 top ten to beat George had he tried a comeback.

 

How many movers did Foreman fight? He made Tommy Morrison look like Ali.

Yeah forget the very very old Foreman....... anywhere in early 90's this is a giant mismatch and Jones has no hope at all.

All it takes is one. If Tarver could take Roy out with one left hook. I'd wager Foreman could do it with a jab. No way Roy can do 10-12 rounds without eating at least a couple. He rocks him with anything he lands and finishes him.
