You've got Oosthuzien at 175, but he has no chance at heavy.

They need to bring back the mustache! South Africa is an odd place for boxing. Most of the native population are short and light ( Bushman ), and then there is a minority Dutch and English population which average near 6 feet tall.

You won't find many decent middles or light heavies in the nation. I think the boxing scene there is pretty much dead in the amateurs and pro's, except for the lower end of the scale. I did read there is some 7 foot giant from South Africa fighting out of Texas. I saw a clip of him. He had something like an 86" reach, but was stiff as a board, and had limited skills.

Hekkie Budler is probably the best strawweight in boxing today. He's from South Africa.

Corrie Sanders, Gerrie Coetzee, Pierre Coetzer, Francois Botha, Ben Foord, Mike Schutte, Johnny Du Plooy, Kallie Knoetze

top two are the title holders -

1Coetzee - legit world title success
2botha - world titlwe success marred by drugs

next three are the title shot contenders -

3coetzer - managed to get to contention twice with 2 eliminators he lost
4du ploy - lost in a minor world title shot, albeit a worthless one, the wbo one nobody wanted.
5 kallie k managed a title shot and an eliminator, a real contender but a failed one nonetheless.

next 3 are the ones who never earned a world title shot-

6sanders - managed to get in contention once via a title eliminator he lost, plus during retirement a grossly unfair title shot that he was unworthy of during the weakened k bro era, a shot he'd been unable to land in his prime but was gifted when in semi-retirement. no world title success outside that gift.
7foord - never really above national level, no world success at all
8schutte -another national, but lesser success, no world success at all

HerolGee lives in his own world where Johnny Du Plooy won the WBO HW belt :good

He's confused* Du Plooy with Sanders who won the WBU HW title, which isn't exactly a heavy hitter in terms of prestige. Du Plooy did challenge for the WBO version against another guy I like, Damiani. Damiani was just far to durable, and once he worked Du Plooy out, he crumpled him up in the third.

    * Herol is usually confused ;)

its accurate, ranking them in order of the level they reached.

its you who has the guy who could get a title shot in his career, above those who earned title shots and then won a title/narrowly missed out.

You've ranked them - 1.klitschko opponent 2.the rest, which is appalling rubbish!

but thanks for the minor correction with Du Plooy, I amended it.

You and Dino seem fixated on Wlad. That's pretty sad, really.

I ranked Sanders the highest because he's got the most fights with most wins with most KO's and least losses.

Moreover if you actually watch them fight, it's pretty evident that while Coetzee is good (and he's the only one out of the SA HW's that one could argue was better) Sanders is better. He's bigger, faster, more mobile and his combination punching was tremendous. He's got almost as many KO's as Coetzee has wins, ffs.

There's not one guy Coetzee beat that I'd say would be favoured to beat Sanders, whereas I could see Sanders beating a few if not all of the guys that beat Coetzee.

Botha, Sanders drubbed 4 times in the ams, with 3 KO's. Du Plooy he flattened when he was still green.

    It's no contest.

Oh yeah, and Corrie flattened the most dominant HW champion of the last decade. But in your eyes, that makes him worthless :nut

    Herol :-(

The asterisk kind of guy I thought was Mike Bernardo.

He was the first prospect I recall leaving boxing to go to the MMA/kickboxing career. But he was a guy folks were paying attention to and then he just left the sport.

Anyone know details why? He was definately a regarded commodity at a point in time & seemed capable perhaps of joining his fellow country mates.

And he did perform reasonably well in his MMA career, right? I think I saw his stoppage over Butterbean, but don't know much at all about that career.

if you watch them you'd see Coetzee was a better boxer and conditioned to fight championship rounds unlike 6 round sanders. flop mate, trying to argue a guy conditioned for club fightings is some world level guy.

anyone semi decent with a decent whack would have flattened wlad, evident from him getting instantly wiped out by a failed contender of the lewis era, a unique event in the history of the hw crown. And again. And again. flop point mate.

yeh but on planet K you reverse the logic to read "retired corrie is an atg killer" - so flop.

try not claiming drunkenness on someone who doesn't drink.

    FLOP MATE.

Corrie is in the right place in my list - that of the failed contenders who didn't manage to land a shot.

but tell me, why do you flop so many times in consecutive posts?
