I say Roy Jones would have beat Joe Louis for the Heavyweight Championship of the World

Joe was too good a counter puncher and hits too hard for Roy and his somewhat suspect chin. I give him the same chance as in the foreman vs Jones thread. There is a LONG outside chance Roy has one of those nights where he was damn near perfect. But 98/100 Joe puts him to sleep.

Let's see...the brutal combinations of Joe Louis in his prime...or Roy Jones' chin....

That's about the strength of it. Joe L, 9 times out of 10 puts Jones to sleep.

Conn could have beaten Jones. It is a pick'em fight. Louis probably KOs Jones at some point, particularly in a 15 round bout.

Let's not get carried away with Jones, Jr.'s ability at heavy. He fought one heavyweight, who was one of the worst belt holders around, not the real champ at the time. Louis is a tremendously talented ATG. We can only judge a fighter based on what they did in their own era, and in his era, Conn fought the world's best heavyweight. Jones, Jr. did not.

I have Jones top 5 in my light heavy list and Billy just outside but as for the question yes Conn could hold Jones jockie.
Billy Conn and Joe Louis, boxing royalty

I think Jones would be a comfortable favorite in that fight. What advantages would Conn have h2h?

Jones' Hw resume is very thin. He cherry picked and beat the worst champion. It was a very good performance. But, you have to consider the level (or lack thereof) of the guy he beat.

Conn, meanwhile outboxed one of the best heavyweights of all time until getting caught late. He almost pulled off one of the biggest HW upsets ever.

    As a HW, Advantage Conn.

Yes, Conn was a beast and was one of the greatest light heavyweights ever. He's right up there with RJJ.

Roy Jones is a great fighter, but if he would have fought Billy Conn, he would find out that Conn is also a great fighter. Also Jones could win quite a few rounds against Joe Louis, but regardless, IMO Louis would time and KO Jones. Much lesser fighters than Joe Louis have done this...

Due his lack of durability, Roy Jones probably would be flattened by a vintage Joe Louis in very short order. More to the point, Jones would avoid someone like Louis.
