I'm thinking Robinson wins a close decision over 15. Opinions ?

I believe that Robinson could engage Duran the same way Ray Leonard did in Montreal and win anyway. Sugar Ray had so much firepower as a Welterweight. I don`t say that lightly because Duran was a great fighter especially at that point in his career.

    Basically agree.

I think it would be about 9-6 SRR.

Leonard basically fought that fight in the mold of Robinson's style, but Robinson was better at fighting that way. I think he'd win a decision or stop him late.

Give the main five fighters with the style your speaking of who Robby avoided. Besides Burley, Ray has never been talked of as avoiding fighters and Duran didn't have a "Panamanian style" as every other great from Panama I can think of had far different skills then Roberto.

T, forgive me but I really meant to convey that the Ray Robinson I saw at his zenith when he was rampaging through the welterweights would
have dealt the much shorter Roberto Duran a drubbing no doubt.
Robinson at close to 6 ft. would have a big advantage over Roberto and
beat him quite comfortably...This is not to discredit Roberto Duran who was at his best when a lightweight...I also feel that the prime iron jawed Keed Gavilan would have outpointed Duran ,both at welterweights...

I give the slight edge to the Sugarman, based on power.
No wait, Duran...evolution of the game.
    Robinson. ...but it's close.

Thanks for the feedback Burt! I wish I could have seen the bouts you and your dad did. Gavilan would have been a great match up for Roberto at welter and I also would take him by a hair.

Damn right. Robinson was always picking on those slow white fighters like Tommy Bell, Kid Gavilan and George Costner. They made him look unbeatable because they were slow, white and lame.
