Why the Hell is Ricky Burns getting a title shot?

I clicked on the boxing news and just found out this clown is getting a title shot againstMichele Di Rocco for the WBA? wtf has this bum done to deserve a title shot?

In his last fights he went life and death with some busted up asylum seeker and some kiwi midget. Didn't bother correct his daylight robbery draw with B level Beltran who should won.

This kind of **** needs to stop. This guy's a ****ing fraud.

I've never rated Ricky, he avoided the very best and struggled with so-so opposition.

Now he's years past his best he gets a shot? He'd struggle domestically, IMO.

He gets bums on seats and makes promoters money, and as we all should know that trumps ability in boxing.

Not that Burns does not have skills, he does, and a ton of heart, hence he has managed to keep his career going despite being way past his best.

It's not a real title and I'd argue Crolla did as much if not less to get his shot

 

Burns is probably Crawford's best win.

 

Difference is Crolla was on a roll looking good, Ricky is on a huge downslide and the last time he boxed well was prior to Gonzales.

if burns had simply settled with a euro title and stuck at defending that, I'd rate him higher instead of all this world title fakery.

 

It certainly isn't right and things like this in boxing do need to stop happening, but in the modern day climate, it is not the worst example of a fighter getting an undeserved shot.

There does seem a bit of undue vitriol towards Burns in this thread. Ricky is a good lad who achieved far more than nearly everyone thought he would. Yes, the shot is undeserving, but any fighter would take the fight if offered. Your anger would probably be best served directed at the powers that be that allow these fights to take place, rather than at the boxers themselves.

 

Ricky has got to take some responsiblity, he's the one who's picking these goddamn fights and fooling his scottish fans into believing he's some legit warrior who takes on all comers.

We had Hearns telling the world, he's the greatish scottish fighter EVER!
